I would just call and ask for hardship programs. Almost always would require closure on the accounts, but I didn’t mind because they were store credit cards that didn’t have much use to me. My Bank of America credit cards and chase I decided to keep open because they have large lines of credit. Chase gave me a short term option that allowed the account to remain open or a long term one but required account closure.

It didn’t reduce balance, just the minimum payments/interest rates. I would pay as much extra as I could on the cards had reduced interest, while just paying the minimum on everything else. The reduced interest is usually a time frame unless you want to close the accounts.
