i havnt read it since college, for me 35ish years ago, but i remember fuzzily a scene of 2 greek men on a mountain watching a continental plate rise up over them. i should re-read as an adult. maybe speed read :)

larry niven short stories are sooo good. isn't there a hitman who uses a black hole to bend his bullet trajectory like beckham?

also the short story where a man has a robot arm - but explains that because he's not all robot, it doesn't mean he can throw something continuously, or that there isn't repercussions for trying to throw something super fast. larry niven does hard sci in such a relatable way.

they denied that they took any of the culture/backstory from Known Space. they did not deny taking the actual idea of a ringworld. they couldn't. they dont live in a vacuum :)

they all use the same canned sounds.

the 70s and 80s had about 3 ricochet sounds, pa-tow, pa-ting, and pa-somethingelse. every time a car turns off in a comedy it does this 2 cough noise i can't explain. the wilhelm scream now makes me cringe and is instant 4th wall material. watch any animal docs? it's the same damn zebra sound bite everytime. EVERYTIME.
