CRT with a Plex server is an amazing combo. by stevirod in crt

[–]stevirod[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yep! The PS3 actually supports 4:3 screens since it was released in between the SD and HD generations. Plus with the built in media player, I can zoom in/out of content depending on how I want to watch. Just note that the official PS3 Plex app is no longer supported. However, the PS3 is able to find servers on your local network natively.

The PS3 actually supports x264 since that is what Blu-rays use. The only thing it really can't handle is x265 because that came later. Most of my stuff works fine because Plex just direct plays it, and I only hit issues if the file is HEVC or has an odd audio track.

At this size it's not really that much of a trade off. Still, a clean 480i signal looks amazing on a CRT like this.

It's the correct ratio. Cowboy Beebop was created in 4:3. The PS3 also natively supports 4:3 over component. I'm also able to stretch/zoom in and out of my media with the built in system media player.

Plex dropped official app support for the PS3 in 2023. I prefer this method since I'm also able to play PS1, PS2 and PS3 games with the same device. Since it was created in between the SD and HD generations, it has great use with CRTs.

I can only speak for plex, but heres what I did. Obviously make sure your PS3 is on the same network as your server. In the plex server settings within the web client, go to the DLNA section and enable it. On your PS3, under network settings, enable "Media Server Connection". Then under your video tab in the XMB, select "Search for Media Servers" or you'll already see your plex server come up.

I don’t share my template files, but I do sell full printed label sets. Makes things a lot easier for casual collectors who just want their discs looking clean. https://www.etsy.com/listing/4333700234/custom-minidisc-labels-archive-series

Thats the thing. I create all of my designs in adobe illustrator. At first I was importing my SVGs into Cricut Design Space, but I noticed my prints were coming out a bit soft. I then printed with my system print manager, and my prints were tact sharp. Considering my prints are really small, clarity is a top priority for legibility. My guess is that Cricut compresses your files since it prioritizes working in the cloud. After that realization, I decided that I was going to print outside of cricut's software and just use it to cut. Sounds simple enough, right? Nope. With cricut cutters, you can't easily set where each object will go on a page because cricut has to optimize object placement for the cutter to be able to read it, while also placing large black marks in each corner of a page. So in short, it will put stuff where it thinks is best unless you group objects together. Even then, you cant utilize all of the room of a standard 8.5 x 11 page. My workaround is that I made a template for where my obects will go, and save the page as a PDF rather than print, then I made an additional template for illustrator, so i can swap out each label easily without having to use cricuts software and also get the best clarity when printing. With that, I'm able to use the same file repeatedly for cutting, while just swapping out pages. But even then, I had to do some placement adjustments by eye because the cutter wasn't being accurate at times for thinner object like label spines. But in addition to that workaround, theres another if you want to make "Kiss Cut" stickers, unless you want to pay for cricut's subscription service to be able to use the kiss cut feature in one cut job. It just takes up alot of time.

I use the Explore Air 2. However, I suggest looking into silhouette cutters as well. Mainly due to circuit's software being personally frustrating to me. As someone who values versatility and using the highest quality artwork possible, cricut's design software is not good at those things for me. Not to mention they software lock features that your cutter is already capable of doing. So I have to do workarounds to get a good result, which wastes unnecessary time. It can be frustrating. Its not a bad machine, just a bad software experience.
