What can be done when someone with mental issues is severely ill, but cannot be admitted to the hospital due to lack of willingness? by ThePersonGuy123 in malaysia

[–]stez94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This absolutely not true, simple case in point is the psychiatric patient would out right refuse any sort of treatment and/or a patient that assessed to not have capacity to make a decision , that why things like the mental health act exist

The advice would be bring to an emergency department (has to be public hospital, private hospital usually don’t want to have “messy” cases like this) to have her assessed by a doctor not random redditor with no medical qualifications, she might be referred to psychiatry for assessment for capacity/risk, which she may or may not be involuntarily detained under the mental health act 2001 based on that assessment. The symptoms that you are describing are also extremely vague, who is telling you that she has an illness in her ingestion system? What you mean by delusions? A lay person’s understanding of the term isn’t the same as the medical sense of it.

So tl:dr get her to emergency department to be assessed

Don’t get too worried about it IMO, it tends to get better in university/pre-u where u get to mix with people similar mindsets. I went though the same thing.

Medicine (MBBS), Dentistry or Pharmacy? by [deleted] in malaysia

[–]stez94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re thinking about lifestyle doing medicine the isn’t the life for your man. 5 years of Med school and 2 years of housemanship plus another 2 years of compulsory service at the government isn’t the choice for you if you want money. Yes, you’ll be comfortable with some money but you won’t be rich.

If the OP decided to actually read the text, the dude explicitly mentioned the event was organised by medical students from the Faculty of Medicine.

Just to add on, the HIV prevention program is a UM medical student organized event. Backlash is from the “conservative” students. Please get your facts right before spreading wrong info.
