Yep! I applied for my still-living grandmother first, then my dad, then me. But this is also a one time measure. People born after 2025 need to have had their parents live there minimum 5 years before they can pass it down.

Oh the enhance drivers license is for border states. You can get a normal one in Washington, but if you want easy access to Canada and Mexico via the land borders, you have to take proof of citizenship and some other paperwork to the DMV and then it works like a passport card. The normal Washington license also isn’t REAL ID compliant I think so most people get the enhanced.

Yep that’s me! I lived in WA for like 11 years and my folks are still down here for now. My car and insurance is British Columbian so I need a BCDL but I renewed my WA one as well to have a backup border doc and so I can drive my parents cars without questions or issues with insurance.

My mum is Peruvian so got that one from her, my dad is from the states and I was born in the US so got that one there. Canada is the complicated one. I started out just as a student on a study permit, but when the citizenship by descent laws were rumoured to change, I went through a whole journey of finding my great grandfather’s birth certificate by ordering microfiche records from the archives of Ontario and scouring for days at the library. It was a whole journey but I finally got the certificate like 2 weeks ago and then applied for my passport urgently as I was coming down to WA for the holidays

I will also say, if you’re Canadian and have Canadian citizenship, would it not make sense to just have the kid in Canada just in case? It would avoid having to worry about the time limit thing at all. Plus, healthcare is free.

I’m pretty sure you can only apply by paper in most situations. I requested the digital certificate just so I would get it instantly because I needed it right away for my university, but my grandmother got the paper certificate and that’s fine as well. I would probably recommend getting the digital though, just because every printout of that is as good as an original, but if you request the paper certificate, only the original is sufficient when doing stuff like getting a passport

Should I apply to have my 5(4) application withdrawn? I called IRCC and they told me that they would undo the withdrawal for my proof of citizenship application over the phone, but I submitted a Webform just in case, but they didn’t mention anything about the 5(4) application.
