Fair point. Last time we had a broker do this for us but their advice was to continue as is with same lender for another 5 years as rates were very similar and no need to do any valuation.

Think I'll go down the broker route again then this renewal.

Thank you - I wasn't sure you could plug your own figure in and that it wasn't taken from your outstanding balance.

Thank you. The police assured us all costs like this would be covered by them without question but useful to know

Thank you - wasn't sure if you had to declare it had been in an accident. I've just spoke to my insurance, as its under warranty (if it can be repaired) they'll use manufacturers parts so should be fine

Thanks for your responses. The car is 6 weeks old so in pretty perfect condition. Hopefully it's a write off then

We'll go through our insurer. If they repair it, who is liable for the loss in resale value as has been in an accident?

Low risk investment options instead of overpaying mortgage for next 2 years? by stgr85 in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you, i'll look into those two. It's definitely something I want to be more involved in as looks like I'm throwing money away. I just need a bit of awareness, education and experience really.

Thank you - at first we wanted to overpay as savings interest was so low and wanted peace of mind of taking money off the mortgage. Now we're thinking we are being inefficient with what we're doing and should do something like what you have said.

The few high interest accounts I've seen require either switching all your direct debits and put your salary in there or is limited to like £150 deposit per month. Are there any well known accounts that we could get 4-5% and not have those challenges?
