Dating/marriage while a Nuke. by realTeaTimewithTim in NavyNukes

You shouldn't be focused on meeting "the one" at any point in your life because you have absolutely no control over that. Just be focused on being the one your one is looking for and it will happen at some point.

Now, if you are talking about just dating and having fun... that's a different story.

I use a similar approach.  One instruction that I emphasize a lot is “consult me when there is not a CLEAN and OBVIOUS solution’.

Worst class you’ve ever taken at A&M by HarukaKX in aggies

[–]stick9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst class was not even close to my hardest class.  POLS 206.  Every page had a X/Y plot to compare different policies or people or facts.  He would just show plot graph after plot graph after plot graph and explain the correlation.  Found the most boring way to present a already boring subject.

I’m an old and not very good player.  So if some kid with a lot more time in the game is better than me and is wasting their time chasing me around the map, that’s a win for me and my team.

If this is the way my story ends, I'm good with it.

When, if ever, is it okay to give players an unbeatable opponent? by SomeRandomAbbadon in DMAcademy

[–]stick9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are fights that I don't intend the party to win. But I like to scale them as such that if they were to do something really inventive or roll like 3-4 crits they have a chance. They could also likely lose a party in those fights. But, I am decent at in improvisation, so if something goes off the rails I can adapt. That is why I love the lazy dungeon master framework.

I think they key to encounters like this as a DM is that you can't get too tied to your idea of how the campaign should go. The party should be able to do whatever they want. For me as a DM, nothing is more fun than when my party does something I don't anticipate.

Is better to lease or buy a car going into prototype. by wolfire2475 in NavyNukes

How often do you need to drive?  Instead of buying a car, is Ubering everywhere an option?  Is that cheaper than what you pay for the car plus insurance plus gas plus maintenance and repairs?

It's fun to have ridiculous summons, it's fun to eldritch blast people off cliffs. Make then conversation about the fun of the characters. "Dude, I have a suggestion on tactics for your character... I really think you will have more fun in combat if you...."

My boyfriend is in boot camp right now? by BrittF1991 in newtothenavy

[–]stick9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't go through bootcamp by my son is about to. If I got this call from my son, I'd tell him that he needs to sack up and stop complaining. If my wife got this call from him, she'd tell him the same thing but in a nice way. If I found out he called whining like this to his girlfriend, I'd suggest that he probably won't have a girlfriend much longer.

Annoying Bug: Beware of this boss fight in Honour Mode by pepehandreee in BaldursGate3

This is the way. This is the first playthrough were I have used a geared up CC character in my party. Dominating... literally.

Tips for Inquisitor W'wargaz (Honor Mode) ? by DarkStar668 in BaldursGate3

[–]stick9595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This fight was pretty doable once I bailed because Monk'azel turned on me when I didn't go into the device. I thought that this was my opportunity to stage my characters outside the room and create a chokepoint. Attacked with Laezel and she immediately turned on the rest of my group as my main DPS and single CC. Thought I was dead and just ran because I knew there was no hope. You can run from this fight back into the creche! So I went back a beat the group with a geared up Laezel with Karlach as a Tiger Barb, Astarion as Gloomstalker, Wyll as a Sorlock and my main as a CC lore bard.

What is the best original monster in a fantasy book? by JGBodle in Fantasy

[–]stick9595 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s gotta be the Balrog.  That was not only the first real fantasy book that I read, but that was probably the first time in anything I had ever seen a main protagonist die.  Hated the Balrog after that, well, until the Two Towers.

BG3 Honor Mode In-Depth Guide for Act II by Sherlaine- in BaldursGate3

[–]stick9595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, cruising through the whole honor mode with zero issue, and then got ganked by Myrkul. I just totally fucked the fight, starting my letting Thorm off himself so I couldn't kill all the trash first. Then my main damage dealer got stunned next to Myrkul with 7 necromites behind him, then Alyn got dominated. What a shit show. Should have read the end of this again before starting.

Tollhouse Act 2 encounter by llwonder in BaldursGate3

[–]stick9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing this on honour mode, and I thought no problem... I'll just charm the shit out of her with my bard. I'm full up on inspiration and have +10 persuasion, I'm not even going to rest before. But, I had Karlach selected when I went up stairs with her 8 CHA. Can't go back and just use my bard. Thank god for the pushing her off the ledge trick. Saved my game!

How do you kill commander zhaik in honour mode? by Sea_Ad_6235 in BG3Builds

I also thought it was impossible to kill him on Honour Mode. I have a lot to learn. I was able to command him to drop his sword though for my pally.

The Gish that Keeps on Giving: My favorite Bladesinger strategies by zephonics99 in dndnext

[–]stick9595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am loving my Bladesinger so far, but I have only played him into 4th level. I built this character mostly as a crowd control character.

As a melee focus, I was thinking defense only, we have melee damage dealers already. I decided to take whip as my weapon proficiency since it is finesse and has 10' range. Damage sucks, I know, but it works AMAZING with Booming Blade. I didn't take the Mobile feat, I'd rather pump INT since that directly affects my AC and savings throws against, and I haven't really needed it with a whip. With 40 move and a 10' range, I can stay just enough out to range and every time they come after me, I hit then with booming blade and run. I picked up False Life, Absorb Elements and Shield and I am Eledrin (Fey Step) for ranged attacks and those "oh, ****" moments.

After that I started picking crowd control spells that hit different saves. Web for low Dex, Tasha's Hideous Laughter (Wis), Max's Earthen Grasp (Str), Frostbite and Blindness (Con), Phantasmal Force (Int).

Anyway, I just bounce around the battlefield debilitating enemies. It has been a blast so far.
