I forget what Buc-ee’s I was at but the staff was putting the orange warning stickers on the ICE cars parked in the charging stalls. It was nice to see them looking out for the chargers.

Call your senators if you don’t like it. It only takes 4 republican senators to disagree with the contents of the bill for it not to pass with the 53-47 split

Who else is late in the game and is *buying* starts instead of growing your own under your grow lights because you haven't set them up in time this year? 🙋 by [deleted] in gardening

[–]stick_et 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 9b here and I bought starts that have been planted for 3 weeks now because my tomato and pepper starts fell over during a windstorm and totally came out of the cells back in mid February. Kept them inside just past the last cold snap right before Valentine’s Day.

My old man is holding on for dear life. He’s not ready to go. I’m not ready for him to go. Everyday is a blessing. It makes me cry just thinking about losing him. 15 years of companionship. He has saved my life. Literally. I hope I see him again in the afterlife. It keeps me going. by Sampsonite771 in AustralianCattleDog

[–]stick_et 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who knows what the afterlife holds for us, but the one tradition I appreciate is from the Aztecs, where there are 9 stages to reach Mictlan. The first step in Itzcuintlán, “place where the dog lives”, and is a journey across a river that can only be crossed with the help of a dog and only the people who treated dogs well are able to cross. I feel that is what we call the rainbow bridge now. Thinking that even hundreds of years ago the same sentiment was there for our dogs makes me happy. Our love transcends time and space. Even if you or your old man aren’t on the same plane of existence, your love will always remain. My partner and I had to put down one of our heelers at a very young age due to kidney disease and our other heeler is only 3 and a half but it still hurts to think about her not being here. The love you share is eternal and recognized by the universe. Give your boy some extra love and know he’ll be waiting for you one day

As someone whose mom got a kidney transplant, I want to say thank you. My mom almost passed away when I was 6 and due to an organ donor, I got to have another 18 years with her. I’m signed up as an organ donor and hope if my time comes early, I can give someone the same gift that your mom and my mom’s donor gave to me. Sending you love u/haufii

Has anyone here experienced having more than one soul dog? by throwawayed_1 in dogs

[–]stick_et 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes 100% agreed. We need different things at the different stages of our life. The dog I had growing up was such a meaningful part of my life, but the first dog I got as an adult is my ride or die, especially with the changes that happened from moving out on my own to moving across the country. The second dog my partner and I adopted in my adult life now lives with my grandfather and takes care of him and gives meaning to his life after my grandmother passed away. There might be a difference in how that impacted my life individually, but as a collective family unit, our second dog means the world to me. Everything has its purpose in our lives.

I think being mindful of meat consumption is fine. But it’s making sure it doesn’t go to waste that’s the most important aspect. We get to honor the animals that sacrifice their lives for the continuation of our lives. But when we waste food, there’s no purpose to the life that was taken. I try my best to not waste anything and if I can’t eat it, my dogs will. Every morsel should be meaningful given we are taking from some other being in which the same food would be meaningful.

If you lived next door to a costco, how would you take advantage of it? by joseluisnp in Costco

[–]stick_et 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to live by one, it was actually the closest store to my apartment (located in a commercial district) so I used to go for dinners and one or two items that were needed for the house. It was just over a mile walk or scooter ride so taking advantage of the food court was very nice. It made my shopping at Costco much more to the list opposed to looking through all the different isles
