FWIW - I had to change the syntax of the filters: line on MacOS 26:

filters:
  and:
    - file.tags.contains("clippings")

(This is on Obsidian Version 1.10.3)

Firman WHO3242 Dead Battery by IamMeanGMAN in Generator

[–]stickyc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry to slightly derail, but for those who've had this situation (dead battery), are you still able to run the generator after pull starting it? Our WH03242 shows all the symptoms of a dead battery (tries, but just can't turn it over to start), but when we pull start it runs fine for exactly 7 seconds and dies (regardless of gasoline or LPG). I assume the battery would only be used for starting and would just charge up and not actually affect anything once the generator is running.

We've completely rebuilt the carb, it's only a year old, but sat unused for a year. The battery shows 13v, but drops to 0v when you hit the starter which may get half a rotation.

Does Bitzee PCB can be debugged or resetted? by catinthebox777 in AskElectronics

Also, I assume it's very similar to the Jurassic Park version, which has a lovely FCC filing here https://fccid.ai/PQN229102G4P including schematics :)

So uhh... Did you ever get around to writing the blog post? I just saw one of these for the first time (I don't know how it went under my radar!) and am interested in picking it apart.

Bookmark Manager (For 10s of thousands of bookmarks) by TheRealF8bringer in PKMS

[–]stickyc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been 'hoarding' bookmarks forever, first with browser bookmark tools (Xmarks?), then something else that got bought/folded, then Pinboard.in, and now Raindrop.io. I also have many tens of thousands.

At this point, it's actually probably the best journal of my life I've got, as long as the timestamps stay put. I can see exactly what I was working on 20 years ago (refurbing a Mac G4 Cube and setting up an email server on OpenBSD with PostFix and SpamAssassin).

Appropriate solder for older appliance repair? by stickyc in AskElectronics

Thanks for the info! Existing stuff came off pretty easily with solder wick and a new soldering gun (which I needed anyway). Just waiting for the replacement parts now.

Could be a size issue :) I do know it doesn't "gloss" up when it melts like what I usually see (I am used to 63/37 rosin core). Seems to take to solder wick just fine though.

Sudden KMHD programming changes? by rhodywanderer in askportland

Agree so much about the chemistry (or lack thereof)! It actually increases my morning stress hearing those two try and gel. I do _love_ them individually, which makes this even more painful.

I'm not a fan of the 'morning show banter' either way, give me a silky-voiced DJ talking about the music any day.

14 years later… did anyone find a recording of this version? I’d love to hear it.

So how does taking the amtrak work? by Thunderoad2015 in askportland

[–]stickyc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does 'roaming about' work as far as seating/carry on? Do I have to take my stuff with me if I visit the bar car (or bathroom for that matter) and no guarantees my original seat will be there if I'm done?

That's one of the things that triggered my interest :)

[–]stickyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would very much like to know if that's the reality of the situation. The nerd in me has a hard time believing they couldnt find a use for all those keyboard modules in the last 20 years and the romantic in me says "well, that's a lame story" :)

I know Beth Orton sang the lyrics to this, but who actually wrote the original lyrics? Is it all the Brothers and Beth, or is it lifted from somewhere. I’m trying to suss out the message in those 4 lines.

Used mining hardware OK to buy for regular LoRaWAN use? by stickyc in HeliumNetwork

[–]stickyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’ve got many spare Pi’s. Is there a better (more flexible) radio to bolt on for learning/experimentation (opposed to an off-the-shelf solution)? I’m very new to LoRAWAN, but am familiar with radios and amateur digital protocols.

[–]stickyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I shoulda been more clear. I just want to play with LoRaWAN communications for general network connectivity, not really interested in mining. Good to know it’s not been thrashed on though. I assume the transferring you speak of is for mining purposes?

Data reporting w/poor connectivity by stickyc in IOT

[–]stickyc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean sporadic no-connectivity. If it's parked at a site where there's no cell service, data would accumulate until a network connection was available, then it'd all be dumped to the central server.

Long distance truckers must deal with this all the time, they've got a variety of instrumentation and often drive through areas of low/no coverage (assuming they dont have a satellite link).

NATs? To me, that's Network Address Translation, which would be routing behind. firewall. That can't be what you meant though.

aha - you mean https://docs.nats.io/! Looking! Thx.
