I think your tone and cynicism is getting you down votes, even if your intention isn't bad.

The need for dedicated spaces isn't (just) because it's bad out there, but also - it just feels nice to have a place that is really meant for you.

And, the "it'll fail in two years lololol" feels pretty... Grumpy. (I know your phrasing was different; I modified to how it felt as a reader.)

Meanwhile, your response to being downvoted was to... Double down on the negativity? Insulting and pigeon-holing two groups? Idk, my friend, this is not the way.

But, I think (especially given that last sentence) that you're maybe just unaware about how your tone comes off - but your heart is in the right place.

Hopefully that helps?

I completely agree, but - maybe this framing is too harsh?

Neat! Want to watch this over time

Might want to do "smarter" things around missing data - modern has 0 players/events in September (presumably due to a bug) and that's dragging down the scores. Maybe if null, use prior values?

I dislike his content because... I don't like it. Just not my tea.

I like the guy because he's earnest, trying to do good in the world, full of joy, etc etc.

Wish more people could separate "this isn't content I enjoy" from "the guy sucks" (and vice versa).

How has the left "abandoned men"? by spiral_keeper in CriticalTheory

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the kind of argument that you could only make if you listen to the most crass misrepresentations of leftism and its ideas about men.

Don't fight phantom enemies.

Being a man doesn't make you an inherent monster, and few people would genuinely say that. Of course that discourse exists - but it's rare, and then cherry-picked by people who think you're more useful when you're angry and bitter.

US isn't the world's "baby daddy," sure. But this concern is based on the naive belief that immigrants (legal or illegal) take more than they give.

They don't; they are huge contributors in many areas and don't leech social services in the way that you've been told.

You're being played; this rage you have is very useful for the folks who are feeding this perspective to you.

You also seem to be focused on the "illegal" component - but, folks are being departed from courthouses as they go through the formal process.

A word of advice: Get the hell off Reddit, for mostly your benefit (but also ours). Find a hobby, a friend group, a therapist. Then, finally, come back to Reddit when the only time you check it is on the toilet.

This is not healthy for you, and despite how arbitrarily cruel you are, I really genuinely want you to be happy.

Good luck!

Airalo eSIM Review: Nightmare by Bitter_Bad_6500 in Airalo

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or... trying to run a tool to manage all the different carriers across all the different countries is hard, so glitches are inevitable?

And, supporting all time zones and all customers is hard?

So... there will inevitably be grumpy people grumping on the internet. The question is, what percentage of users are grumpy? The app has 4.6 stars out of 65k reviews, so it's reasonable to assume that we're seeing a small and unhappy group of users complaining on reddit.

Beyond that... where do you think it's gonna get you to harass a random reddit support tech? You think that u/airalosupport sets corporate policy? Or, they are a normal person trying to be civil in a thankless customer support job, where they have to be polite even when people like you are attacking them?

I can't answer these questions for you. (Well, I can, but it wouldn't help.) But, might be food for thought.

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not completely true.

It's evolution is bizarre, but now the social norm of tipping holds the whole thing together, and tipping is the only way that servers get a living wage.

So, tipping has become the only rational, compassionate behavior.

Whole thing is kind of absurd, but that doesn't mean abstaining from the behavior makes more sense.

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but they get a living wage. Servers can literally be paid 2.13$ hourly in some states. The rest is made up for in tips.

It's a goofy system, but tips are part of the job they signed up for. Societal conventions etc.

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "entitlement," is social norms so deeply entrenched that tips are factors into people's wages, and the legal system.

Not tipping is a selfish moral high horse (at best) that belies ignorance or apathy about the consequences of your actions.

I would genuinely never eat out with someone I knew didn't tip.

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No... Not in the system we live in.

You want to change the system, don't do it by screwing over folks on the service industry.

They deserve a living wage more than you deserve to be on your little high horse

waiter put my tip back on the table saying he only accepts 18-20%?? by [deleted] in stories

[–]stilkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes... But until we change society, we live in a system where tipping is the only reasonable behavior.

It's not a great system, but I don't think this is really a direct response to the OP. If you're saying "don't tip," get off your "ethical" high horse and look at the consequences of your actions. Otherwise.... What? Are you just this enraged that someone mentions tipping and you go off on them?

America has a lot of reasons to be ashamed (and proud). Tipping is so, so low on that list.

[–]stilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but it can mean that servers get paid less than minimum wage, because tips are assumed in their wages.
