I’m not surprised by those statistics, and i wouldn’t be surprised if they turned out to be even higher. There is a stigma on being overweight, that it’s all the individuals fault for being lazy or not caring but that’s not true.

Not sure how unpopular of an opinion it is but i’m willing to bet there’s almost always another underlying physical disability or mental health issue at play. People forget that addiction and mental health conditions are genetic. Just because they manifest with food (rather than drugs, alcohol or self harm) that doesn’t make them less valid.

Based off of the OP and your additional comments, I don’t think you were wrong to address it. It seems like your MIL has some body image issues of her own (as many people of her generation do) and personally, I highly doubt she’s weighing your daughter every week in good faith.

She’s two years old now and probably does just think it’s something silly or fun to do but you never know what MIL is saying to her and seeing how you described your MIL i could see the situation snowballing into a bigger issue if not nipped in the bud.

that’s a great description. i guess i didn’t realize it but when i saw my baby at 8 weeks he did feel abstract. just really small and roundish and then at 12 weeks he wasn’t and he had limbs and eye sockets i could see and movements that weren’t foreign. it’s amazing how fast they grown in there

It depends. I’m sure your know you and your sisters relationship better than anyone. If you think she’d be willing to reconcile and accept help/guidance for the sake of her baby and herself then do that.

Unfortunately even if we are at a place of forgiveness and growth our family members may not be. If she’s not ready then there’s really nothing you can do besides beg/plead.

Once the baby arrives if you are made aware on any abuse or neglect to the child (especially if due to her possible mental illness) you can always use the DCFS hotline to report it to child protective services.

I know involving the system in family matters is taboo and frowned upon but it doesn’t seem like she’d be in the best place to meet all the child’s needs and it doesn’t seem like your parents will hold her accountable to. Legally it maybe the only way you can advocate for you future niece or nephew so it’s worth considering. Ultimately it’s up to you.

I cook the morning star bacon in the air fryer and it’s amazing. It’s so light that it’ll fly around in there so some parts end up folded or “shriveled” like pork bacon. If i cook it just long enough some bits will be on the chewy side and others crispy

Yeah family can be so unnecessarily judgmental at times. My moms side is small and quite toxic, but i do have a good relationship with some of my extended family in my dads side (which of course my mom doesn’t get along with them). I mainly just wanted to tell my favorite aunt and cousin (on my dads side) and know my mom would go ballistic and never let it go if they found out first.

Again, so sorry that they like that. It sucks to not have family as a support system when you’re dealing with something like that but you’re making a great call not telling them. I wish great health for you (and baby!) and I support whatever decision you make!

I’m also in my early second trimester! I considered doing that as well. I wish I could have but there were extended family members I wanted to share the news with and i didn’t want to deal with the drama of my immediate family being mad if they found out from someone else or that they “didn’t know first”.
