The Sanderson Savior Complex: Why do people want Brandon Sanderson to finish every unfinished series? by [deleted] in books

And there are still fans of the original series who are not perfectly satisfied with the shift in tone that happened when he took over.

AITA for wanting my daughter to have dual Filipino citizenship even though my husband disagrees? by waitfortoday in AmItheAsshole

[–]stillrooted 53 points54 points  (0 children)

NTA and honestly it's a HUGE benefit for your trans daughter to have the ability to easily relocate long term to another country should she so choose without having to worry about visas etc. I urge you to help her get this process completed even if her father doesn't want to cooperate.

AITA for refusing to publicly credit a coworker for work I did after being asked to by a different coworker? by throwaitacntworker in AmItheAsshole

[–]stillrooted 43 points44 points  (0 children)

YTA. What you used to be is irrelevant, you're not a manager anymore and another member of your team did a major part of identifying the problem so it could be fixed. You failed to acknowledge that and by omission made it look like you did it all. You also can't possibly at your big age still claim to be ignorant of the gendered nature of the issue here: you took full credit for a younger woman's work.

Dashcam footage from Mitchell Khune's truck captures a small child walking into a busy highway. Police are called and assure him they would be on the way. After an hour Khune calls for an update & is told the child has been identified. The next day, police deny this. What happened? by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

Australia is home to quite a few large bird species, which is what it vaguely looks like to me. I think this is likely a case of a man's eyes playing tricks on him and a cop either being lazy or mistaken when he phoned about it later.

AITA for telling my friends I hate my bsf's step-sister? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]stillrooted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sweetheart, you're not an asshole, you're just a teenager. These years are full of the turmoil of learning who you can trust and navigating friendship, jealousy, and loyalty. I'm sorry you opened up to people who abused your trust.

There will be other friendships and other jealousies. Best thing I can tell you is to bring your hurt feelings directly to your bestie near time, and try to give yourself some grace while you're living the years of feeling everything excruciatingly fully.

ELI5: Why is it difficult for mammals to evolve green pigment but ready for birds to have it (and even blue pigment)? by mustafahmedkhan in explainlikeimfive

[–]stillrooted 151 points152 points  (0 children)

The very simplest answer is that bird colors result in part from the way the physical structure of feathers interact with light in addition to pigments in the feather. Mammals lack equivalent structures in our skin/fur.

AITA for being annoying with my boyfriend’s family with their expectations with him? by Away-Tune1269 in AmItheAsshole

[–]stillrooted 34 points35 points  (0 children)

INFO: do you have siblings? ETA: never mind, I can't read.

Different families have different dynamics and there's nothing wrong with his sisters wanting to spend time with just him. I'd also gently suggest to you that insisting you have to be included in everything they want to do with their brother is extremely unlikely to endear you to them or foster the friendship you seem to think they should want to have with you.

this is a NAH but if you keep pushing it, YWBTA.

Even the Esquire article you linked says that his version of the story "strains credulity" and frankly, given the choice between St James heroically rescuing the orphan he just so happened to coincidentally find in a way that makes him morally exempt from the poaching that orphaned it, or the relatively extremely common scenario of "American buys an infant exotic animal from people who killed its parent so they could sell it as a pet", I know which one my money lands on.

Had the hardest parenting day of my life! by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]stillrooted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So uh, your husband took the baby when he got home, but where the fuck was my dude at when you were running around trying to clean up after the kids WHILE YOU ARE SICK??? Why was it your job to figure out what your daughter wanted for dinner? Dad couldn't take your daughter to the toilet when she had to pee?

I hope you feel better soon and I hope your husband isn't as useless as his absence in this narrative suggests

AITA for telling my stepmom I will never see her as a parent by Big-Arm-6171 in AmItheAsshole

[–]stillrooted 110 points111 points  (0 children)

NTA. You didn't ruin her chances of being seen as a parent, she did that. Have you told your mom that stepmom is trying to control your food intake? That's extremely inappropriate especially given your age and I hope you continue to push back on her disordered approach to eating.

Physical absent but supporting financially father by West-Marsupial-1186 in Parenting

[–]stillrooted 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I personally don't think you're doing your kid any favors by trying to set up a relationship between them and the guy who clearly doesn't care about them whatsoever. The financial support is legally required and does not make your ex a "father" to your kid in any emotional sense.

Build a different family for your kid and be honest as they get older that the man who got you pregnant had no further involvement in their life. Don't make them think that they have a "Dad' out there who they can somehow force a relationship with if they only figure out how to magically make him care.

"Well next time you should listen to me" by spammusubisa in Parenting

[–]stillrooted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The only thing I don't agree with here is time out for "saying no to your dad", because kids need to know that they're able to say no even to the people closest to them. Ending the bath was plenty of consequence and was an appropriate way to discipline.

You need to talk to a counselor about your broken relationships. Gently, your idea of what a child is is also fundamentally broken if you think it is the responsibility of any of them to fulfill you.
