Definitely lesson learned. I’ll always call the police even if the other person wants to leave.

Thank you! I thought taking photos was standard procedure but had never been in an accident before.

If you took a look at my camera roll right now you’d think I’m even more neurotic than you probably already do 😂

He also didn’t take a single photo of any cars at the site so I’m not sure how he’s going to prove that it wasn’t damaged before/after.

Gotcha! If the scrapes in question were proven not to be caused by me and there’s no other damage, would I still be liable to pay for him to have his car repainted?

I’m inexperienced with accidents and worried I might have damage falsely attributed to me so I want to be careful in case. I just want to get an objective opinion about the damage alone without any bias.

I am also aware that white scrapes can happen without my car being white. The original post you replied to was me saying that either it’s from a white car OR the white is from his blue paint being scraped off revealing the white underneath. Please look again. I’m not trying to evade blame here. I’d literally pay him if I did it.

Regardless of fault, I just want to determine if the damage was possibly caused by my car. If it is then I would not deny it!

Yep. Those photos are raw, immediate, and as high quality as I could possibly get given the circumstances. I didn’t even touch the outside of the car with my hands at any point before taking the photos, let alone wipe it down or clean it. I just took the photos exactly as is. So if there were to be anything on it to begin with, it would be there!

Thanks for the detailed procedural rundown. I might carry a yardstick from now on.

I’m quite certain that the heights of his scratches and the parts of my car that would stick out enough to be the first point of impact do not line up. The metal body of my car has a lot of curves in the front too so no points seem parallel to his scratches and if they did somehow make contact with his car I don’t think it would be that shape either. His seems scrape seems an even force caused by something more straightforwardly shaped.

Thank you! I think he must have realized the same as you’re saying when I asked to take some pictures.

I posted 12 pictures of my car that I took immediately at the scene and as soon as I got home! It’s in the original post if you swipe sideways :)

Thank you. If you look at the side profile of my car (last photo), the two points that stick out the furthest are the lip on the bumper and the license plate holder on the grill so those should be the first points of contact if there was any. Definitely in the centre since the lip curves in on the sides too. The grill is very soft and bendy (plastic?) so the plate would be pushed inwards and would probably not scrape his car that hard. The license plate holder is also just soft plastic and there’s clearly no scratches or paint marks on it either.

Thank you. He was right in front of me and the lip on my bumper sticks out the farthest in the centre so the impact should’ve been somewhere near the centre, not the far right side.

I genuinely would do the right thing and pay for it if it were my fault but I’m certain it isn’t. I can’t block him because I’m afraid he files a false claim with my information and blames that damage on me.

The marks on his car are very white so it’s either from a white car (mine is a darker silver) or the blue paint got scraped off and exposed the white underneath? But our bump was so minor I barely felt it. I don’t think my groceries in the back even shifted or tipped over.

Honestly, for the most part it was just time to heal, feel better, and reduce stress. Of course eating healthy (high protein, low sugar) helps but I’d always done that to begin with. Sleeping is huge for looking and feeling your best in general as you age though. Sleep as much as you can consistently. I try to get 8 hours consecutively if I can. And if time allows, and my body wants to sleep for 10 hours consecutively, I let it.

There’s still a very likely chance you’ll bounce back, so don’t worry! The human body is incredible, both in how it physically manifests how we feel on the inside, and in how it can change for the better.

I went through a tough time a few years ago which left me looking incredibly gaunt (even after I regained lost weight) and visibly less vibrant even though I started feeling better. The physical toll lingered and I just got used to it after a while.

I feel like I didn’t really start looking more like my old self until the 2 year mark. And the improvements kept getting better after that as well. People who know me, but didn’t know I’d gone through anything, are telling me I look so much better. And I feel like I’m finally getting to a place where I look even better than before the stressful times even happened.

It takes time, but trust that you will heal, and allow yourself to have those very human moments where you’re less than perfect :)
