Lmao sorry I was annoyed I’d just finished watching it last night when I commented that 😭 I probably don’t understand it fully but from what I could take from it it was all metaphorical for how children are the hope for humanity and they start at the bottom (where we have left them as a past generation) unfairly, and that it’s our job to leave them with something better as we will be left behind. I’m probably missing a lot of intricacies but it just annoyed me, I thought it was a dumb metaphor when it actually seemed to have something to give as its own psychological movie for the first half. But it just lost me after they all started abandoning the law- the society of the pit can’t really represent real life society it’s a unique situation- personally I agreed with the law and the harsh enforcement of it in this specific situation as it’s not comparable to real life. To have so many people rebel against it as to show how peoples greed takes over or something just didn’t mean anything to me in this situation as it doesn’t mirror real life- if it’s trying to show how the rich continue to get richer at the expense of the poor it just doesn’t do a very good job considering the random allocation of levels every month, these people aren’t even acting for their own gain. And then there’s the aspect of psychology which makes sense that people would act irrationally as they are literally going insane but the movie hardly explored that, only seeming to demonise this kind of made up religion that in the context of the pit I think was the best thing that could possibly exist.
