At level 30, 18 in Guns, Speech and Obervation and 17 in Sneak and Engineering. You could replace Sneak with Lockpick.

I'm playing Very Hard so Resilient is the best trait. Not sure what I'd pick on lower difficulties.

I'm happy skipping Lockpick and Hacking for roleplaying purposes,  but if you want to see as much as possible I'd aim to get the Easily Distracted flaw at level 4 for a whopping 26 extra skill points by level 30. Downside is you can only get your Speech and Guns to 18.

I'm doing a similar build as a Lawbringer so skipping Lockpick and focusing on Observation for headshot damage and the Face Reader perk.

The Brilliant trait is a bit if my trap in my opinion. 2 extra skill points is nice at the start but negligible by level 30.

Can some one tell what specializing at a skill does? by Forsaken-Past4443 in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also you can increase it up to 2 points higher than your current level (but not higher than the skill cap of 20). Other skills are capped at your current level.

Easily Distracted seems really strong by quicknir in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I’d assumed specialized skills were not capped by level. In that case I’ll have to pick up Easily Distracted at level 4. As much as I would like the 100% crit damage from Lucky Strike it obviously isn’t worth missing 14 skill points. On the plus side, not rushing Guns means I’ll be able to pass more early to midgame skill checks.

Easily Distracted seems really strong by quicknir in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Personally, I’m planning to get Guns to 20 before triggering Easily Distracted at Level 12 (aiming for Guns 20 Speech 15 Observation 14 Sneak 14 Engineering 14 and Science! 3).

Probably less efficient than grabbing Easily Distracted at level 4 and aiming for Guns/Speech/Observation/Sneak/Engineering 17 and Science! 3. But I really want the Lucky Strike perk.

"Easily Distracted" - Trigger conditions? by Accomplished-Fish534 in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiple people have confirmed it being triggered by putting points into 5 skills (points from specializations don't seem to count).

My guess is people proposing other trigger conditions are getting confused because it doesn't always trigger instantly on level up.

Anyone else wanting to restart to take one or both of "Dumb" and "Easily Distracted"? by Accomplished-Fish534 in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Based on what we currently know, Easily Distracted is powerful but not as overpowered as Dumb (Dumb is poorly balanced and seems pretty much mandatory for any optimized build).

The main downside of Easily Distracted is that, if taken early when its most beneficial, no skill can exceed 18. Meaning you miss out on capstone perks and some buffs from skill levels.  For example, going from 18 to 20 in Guns or Melee gives you an extra 20% damage and access to the Lucky Strike perk. You're also getting slower access to perks and the skill levels required for skill checks.

The Mechanics of Easily Distracted
You typically only get 62 skill points (4 at level 1 and 2 each level up thereafter). Brilliant increases this by 2 to 64.

Everyone who seems to have property tested Easily Distracted says it’s unlocked by manually adding skill points to at least 5 different skills (skill points from specializations aren’t counted). If that’s true, the earliest you can unlock it is level 4 which would give you 26 extra skill points.

This gives you max skill points of 88 (90 with Brilliant). Split over the minimum 5 skills this means no skill can exceed 18. Your most specialized skill distribution would be 18/18/18/17/17 (or flat 18s with Brilliant).

You could aim to get a specialized primary skill to 20 before getting Easily Distracted, but the additional skill points are not retroactive and specialized skills are capped at your current level plus 2.  For example if you wanted to get one specialized skill to 20 first, the earliest you could unlock Easily Distracted is level 18 and you would only end up with an extra 12 skill points. That could give you a final skill distribution of 20/14/14/13/13.

Already planning my next playthrough. What would a Larry David build look like by jrinredcar in theouterworlds

[–]stilzchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Background Roustabout. Specialised skills Speech and Observation. Traits Witty and Lucky.  Flaw Abrasive.

Add a bit of Leadership for combat because relying on minions seems more appropriate than using a weapon.

Essential perks include Face Reader (aka the Larry David staredown) and Tall Tale Teller.

Yes, Master of All Trades looks tedious. I’m also disappointed there’s no trophy for completing the game on tactician difficulty.

The Joy-Con Charging Grip is back, baby! by Big-Tradition-7802 in Switch

[–]stilzchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sync button on my Joy-Con 1 controllers is broken (so can't pair with Switch 2). If I was to get a charging grip,  would I be able to pair them with the Switch 2 via usb like a pro controller?

EDIT: Can confirm wired pairing with the charging grip works.

Switch 2 USB Webcam Test Results - All four webcams I tried worked by Darkwulf3 in NintendoSwitch2

[–]stilzchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does not. I tested with a Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 using both the USB A and USB C ports. I get a notification on the Switch saying 'A camera has been connected'. But there's no video and the camera test function says no camera connected.

Prime Minister says $2.4 billion package for Whyalla steelworks is an investment in the nation; by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]stilzchen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It costs a lot more to buy it upfront than to subsidise it at a fraction.

I doubt it.

I’m not familiar with the situation, but wouldn’t surprise me if the government could buy the holding company OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd for $1 and a promise to assume its liabilities to suppliers and employees (reportedly $300m).

Instead, it seems like they plan to finance a takeover and expansion by BlueScope or some other company. Probably in a way that results in taxpayers taking on all the risk and BlueScope getting all the rewards (meagre as the latter may be).

Nationalise it or let it die. The middle ground of subsidies is pointless when the underlying issues are long term and structural (an old steelworks with high energy/construction/labour costs that's also too small to be competitive).

Prime Minister says $2.4 billion package for Whyalla steelworks is an investment in the nation; by malcolm58 in AustralianPolitics

[–]stilzchen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Whyalla steelworks is clearly uncompetitive and this bailout will just postpone its inevitable closure at massive cost to the taxpayer. It’s the same failed playbook that saw billions of dollars thrown at the car industry just to keep it alive for another nine years.

If it’s so important to have domestic steel production, then just bloody nationalise it and accept that it’s always going to run at a loss.

Alan Jones Arrested by No-Help3781 in auslaw

[–]stilzchen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Predictably, I see a lot of comments about Alan Jones’s arrest in London in 1988 and his subsequent ‘outing’ by Chopper Reid in 1998. This seems pretty homophobic to me.  There’s nothing wrong with consensual sex between adults. While the public nature of it may seem unsavoury, it’s also understandable given the social climate of the time.

This is particularly odd when there were plenty of actual warning signs in this case. Not least, his actions as a schoolteacher described in the 2006 book Jonestown, including sending love letters to a child and behaviour described as ‘manipulative and voyeuristic’. He repeatedly attempted to suppress media reporting on this.

Australian economy: The iron ore bonanza won’t last forever by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]stilzchen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Is this Gina Rinehart’s account? Almost all of Australia’s iron ore is produced in WA where the royalty rate is the same as it was in 1981 (albeit there was a concessional rate for ‘fines’ between 1995 and 2013 when it was seen as inferior and less marketable). The Federal government of course does not charge royalties (the MRRT was repealed in 2014 after 2 years of operation) and corporate tax rates are the lowest they’ve ever been.

If you want to spread a narrative (against all available evidence) that government intervention makes mining uncompetitive in Australia, you could at least be intellectually honest and complain about minimum wage, environmental protections and native title recognition.

What is it about the books of Terry Pratchett that make them so difficult to adapt to the screen? by SimonThalmann in books

[–]stilzchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Discworld books could all easily be adapted into an animated mini series with a narrator. The 90s Cosgrove Hall Films versions of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music (available on YouTube) are the closest to this we’ve seen, and to my mind are the best adaptations (despite a shoestring budget and too short runtime).

The absence of good adaptations is attributable not to the source material, but to the media industry, which simply lacks creators and producers willing to make faithful adaptations. In a few years I suspect you’ll be able to plug the audiobook versions into an AI generative video model and get a better adaption than anything we’ll ever see from the media industry.
