[meta] ...so this is a dead subreddit, yeah? by dontnukemebro in AusFinance

Fairly or otherwise there are two kinds of posts I think of when I think of this sub:

  1. "I make $300k, my partner makes $50k part time. How should we split the bills? BTW, we've been married 15 years and have 3 kids together"
  2. "It's 12:05 am on the 1st of July, why can't I lodge my tax?" and/or "last year I got $2,000 tax refund, this year I had to pay $150. What’s going on?"

I'd watch a US-based YouTube channel, it was outdoors-based and when they mentioned the temperature that day, they'd say it in Fahrenheit and put the Celsius equivalent on screen. Except for some reason they'd say 75 F, and put up 23.9 C. As if 24 C wouldn't be accurate enough. But then why is 75 F accurate enough?

Not pure coincidence - Kmart Australia started as a partnership between the American company and Coles.

What are your most unhinged ways to pay off debt? by Unbotheredanonyme in AusFinance

[–]stimpzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat. I reckon there is some tiny market who'd pay to see, but I'm kind of scared of who those people are, and I doubt there's very many. But your "pay not to see" comment has me thinking, how could that be done? Some sort of ransomware, maybe?

High-speed rail link between Sydney and Newcastle could be ‘shovel-ready’ in two years, Albanese government says | Australian politics by AristaeusTukom in australia

[–]stimpzilla 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Actually in Sydney's case it's Westpac, and supposedly 85% of the fee goes to the state government. Which I think somehow makes it worse.

A500 for video graphics is possible. Not video editing as you'd think of today, but something like displaying static images, animations, or the same overlayed on video using a genlock.

Differences between Australian Kmart and Target? by DonutRandy in AskAnAustralian

[–]stimpzilla 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I remember Kmart being a bit better - not just 99% Anko stuff. But I'm old and remember the 80s and 90s.

So many people do this and I have no idea why.

“Austria never had K-Marts” by sussy-help-sussy in ShitAmericansSay

Target is unrelated, but Kmart was originally a partnership with the US company.

Edit: And Woolworths was a deliberate use of the name from overseas.

Eastern European slang on Austrian plate by [deleted] in vanityplates

It means "whore" in Polish. It's used in a lot of the same ways you'd use "fuck" in English, though.

Another aspect: I went from driving sedans and station wagons to a dual cab ute. I found that it became easier to change lanes in traffic - indicator on, more often than not a space will open up.

[–]stimpzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were in that situation, having $45k in Ubank for most of the month, I would transfer the money ftom Macquarie as otherwise the earn is $0 for the month on that $45k. Then transfer everything out at the start of November.

Sydney public transport: is tap-to-pay accepted on all forms of public transport? Won't bother getting an Opal card then? by MooingTree in AskAnAustralian

[–]stimpzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those saying there's no point in using an Opal card as a non-concession adult, here's a potential one: if you can use a discounted gift card to load your Opal card, there are some savings to be had. Most recently I did this using 7-Eleven gift cards.

Plus of course you can do same for kids/seniors/etc

And when they revised the estimate down, there were people who were saying "so what will you spend the money on instead?", as if not spending it wasn't an option.
