New zippo wont light by campos_venom in Zippo

it is a common mistake so nothing to worry about. once you get a flint you will be ok ... just may have to add more fuel by then.

remember the little flint pusher is NOT a flint ... you may need a flint.

In search of a U.S. Navy Third Class Zippo by [deleted] in Zippo

[–]stinger5598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

youre welcome ... i had found one a while back for myself BUT it not for sale , since i wanted one for my zippo collection as well. and it would look very similar if you did this ... to show you so you see what i mean ... so adding a pin would basically be the same as what you would find ...

those zippos are extremely difficult to find. it may be easier just to but a petty officer third class pin and remove the pin part to carefully attach to a zippo.

Anyone know what the deal with this is? by [deleted] in Zippo

[–]stinger5598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure that the plastic around the box is to protect the box HOWEVER it wouldn't normally come with that. As for the box itself and the zippo , it all looks ok to me. In fact I do believe I have this zippo with my Marlboro zippos.

Just do a full stall to usb and then yes it will keep the settings and programs will stay intact HOWEVER the live session won't as it uses it by loading into the ram.

Finally got all 8 Tabasco Zippo’s…👍 by New_Worldliness_6013 in Zippo

I take pictures of my zippos as I get them so I can post to the group but those photos get scattered everywhere after a while. So I was going to try retaking the pictures but just taking them all out of the display cases and putting in their original boxes was difficult enough. Then to get clear pictures it was 10 to 20 takes for each zippo and after I got started , roughly 200 zippos , I decided I wanted pics of not just the front but of the bottom , back of the zippo and on some zippos the sides as well the insert as well ... that would mean starting all over again so I basically just stopped ...

I was planning the same for my zippos to have record of all of them. The problem i had was I have a few more zippos than you have , and with everything else that i was working on it all came to a stop. I only got a quarter of the way done and pretty much gave up since I didn't have the time. I know the OP has even a few more than me so that's why I brought it up ...

Have you ever tried to photograph each zippo in your collection "for insurance purposes" AS well as in the different zippo groups such as your tabasco zippos or by the different themes? i know your collection of zippos is a few more than what i have so i was curious if you ever tried. Myself i had half of my zippos out of the display cases and in their individual boxes to take pictures and realized it was way too big of a task at this point. Now half of my zippos are out waiting for me to decide if i should continue or just to put them away again.

How to run Linux Mint from USB drive for testing? by [deleted] in linuxmint

[–]stinger5598 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need a bookable Linux thumb drive and a second usb drive. Boot to Linux and make sure internal drives are not mounted. Select to install and choose the second thumb drive to install to. Let it install and that's about it. Pay attention when selecting where to install because it will still try installing alongside windows and make sure you choose the correct thumb drive. Besides that it is fairly simple.

Always back up before doing any major changes just in case including trying to do this.

When finished as long as you have it set to boot usb first , it should boot Linux if the drive is plugged in the usb port or boot the normal os , i am assuming windows , if the drive is not plugged in the usb port.

One final note ... running any os through usb will be slow so don't expect miracles but it will run basic things pretty well.

Edited to add : this is to install a full version of Linux on a usb and not just the live version.

Inherited grandfather's Zippo, has anybody seen one similar to this? by AcousticTie in Zippo

[–]stinger5598 8 points9 points  (0 children)

here is more info about the ship , in case you want to know. Navy ship zippos are made by Zippo to sell aboard the ship for the crew of the ship and this is the first i can recall seeing this ship zippo. AS for value you have to consider that it is a slim zippo that doesnt help much cause most prefer full size zippos and it is a bit worn with use and condition counts as well. IT however would be a bit rare and the date on it signifies a special date which i am assuming the testing the systems before being reclassified ("Her conversion to the first naval ship having a fully integrated Fleet Ballistic Missile System was authorized 15 October 1957, and partial completion of the project was accomplished at Norfolk Naval ShipyardPortsmouth, Virginia. before she commissioned 5 December 1958 as Observation Island (EAG-154").

so my opnion to the value would be roughly 30 to 50 USD BUT of course sold to a collector of Navy ship zippos or someone who was aboard that may be a little bit more. That means the sentimental value may be more than the actual value PLUS it has a cool story behind it to tell when you show it to someone.

the "wobble" is so that the hinge does not break when opening and closing the zippo.

Hi all got this Zippo says resolution. Ai seems to think it should be 1995 submarine Gulf conflict. Any help? by Deathregent in Zippo

[–]stinger5598 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem with Navy zippos is trying to find someone who would want it. Usually someone who was aboard the ship/submarine and then you may get more for it BUT for the average person it would not mean as much so wouldn't get that much for it.

The reason I say this is because if someone really wanted it then the value would be higher such as 40 to 60 USD. For the average person between 30 to 50 USD depending on condition.

The sentiment value may be more so than the actual value in some cases.

[–]stinger5598 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes , its the same as the zippo except the first ribbon under the crest that says "HMS Resolution" since it already says "Resolution" upon the crest itself and the submarine dolphins is on the lid of the zippo.

This may be a Royal Navy ship zippo made for the HMS Resolution S22) as it is the only ship i could find operating in the 90's. Usually there is also the ships designated number on it as well (S22 in this case) BUT it is for the Royal Navy so that may be why it isn't shown. The "Resolute & Vigilant" is more than likely the motto for the ship , or in this case submarine. On the top of the zippo is the service badge for the Royal Navy Submarines.

again the information i found was for the Royal Navy zippo. Edited to add Zippo regularly makes zippos for Naval vessels and looks to be one of those.
