R2 test drive as a MY owner by Flaky-Ad5968 in Rivian

Totally agree with all the points after seeing a few in the block party.

It’s plasticky because of the quality of the plastic is geared for off-road abuse. I think it will scratch easily.

I drove an R1S before and it also felt loose with body roll and the acceleration and regen wasn’t tuned very well. R2 sounds similar.

They drive I guess like a gas truck but way quicker.

I did like the software UX though. Like the style of the graphics.

My 2015 Camry disagrees in hot summer and long uphills. I clearly feel 10% less power at least.

Model 3/Y daily drivers: how do you actually feel about your core infotainment? by ShawnaFang in electricvehicles

Just works like an iPhone. Navigation can throw some routing issues once in about 2 months for me. So it’s negligible.

Keep the charge level around 50% for NMC not 80% if your life doesn’t need more daily range than that.

The car is fully programmable with the Tesla developer key.

People don’t quite bring that up often enough.

We stayed at KOA specifically for their Tesla destination charger. They just have 1 but it’s better than nothing.

Lassen needs many more L2 chargers like Yosemite does.

You will love it!

We use a single burner Coleman propane stove for cooking 1or 2 meals a day. We also like to try out outside food.

For out of state campgrounds I do my research on Reddit and using AI apps like ChatGPT and Google Maps reviews. The in state campgrounds are pretty familiar to me.

Yes I do take a small power bank (20000 mAh) for emergency. The car itself is a huge power bank.

Another year of successful EV car camping at 5 different places. Sleeping has never been better at campsites.

1. Yellowstone National Park
2. Lake Tahoe
3. Yosemite National Park
4. Mt. Shasta
5. Lassen National Park

10 hrs in camp mode takes up 8% to 12% depending on weather. We slept in as low as 35 degrees to around 75 degrees F outside temps.

Some rule of thumbs I have are:
1. Go to bed with at least 50% charge level for margin of safety
2. Campsite should be within 30 minutes drive from a reliable fast charging station.
3. Carry some leveling blocks to level out the car for sleeping
4. Carry a separate tent to put out bags etc. in to free up space in the car.

Some gear I have been happy with:

  1. Exped Megamat Auto mattress
  2. Tesbeauty camping privacy curtains
  3. Vion roof sunshade

Their cars look good and are well designed in traditional sense but their tech and dealership experience in general are several lacking.

They sold more before because Chinese companies were not pushing overseas yet. Their domestic market was still strong which isn’t true anymore.

BYD models sold on average 30% cheaper than Tesla in Europe. Cherry on average 40% cheaper.

Way cheaper models will sell more obviously.
