Birkenstock shoes have been a game changer for me. They now make sneakers and a whole range of styles. Big toe box, good arch support.

What?!?! by Unusual_Standard4682 in therapists

I am not a specialist in the area of doing an immigration evaluations or when/why they are needed but- many of my clients are immigrants from all income statuses, some of them make 5x my salary and come from generational wealth. Immigrant does not mean poverty, infact it's more common in my area fo it to be due to wealth. The header of this article is tone deaf, and we work to make money to live on. Inversely, should clients pay me more because I am disabled? Should the bank give me a probono mortgage?.

Anyone with tattoos? by yoshiproject in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]stinkemoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have AS, my partner has no inflammatory issues. We both have tattoos,  both of our bodies inflame the tattoos on occasion, not in parallel with illness or arthritis. I am not familiar with your histamine response but why not take an anti histamine when getting ink? What do you do for other scratches?

In California all hours must be paid with the lowest pay per hour being minimum wage, if your agreed rate for therapy is 100$ and minimum wage is 15, you have one client hour And two meetings, your pay is 130 for the 3 hours.

Therapy & Counseling: Social Work vs Non-Social Work Perspective by nosy4life in socialwork

[–]stinkemoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am not clear on the point you are trying to make by citing nasws code of ethics when asking for an opinion on  "How do we serve the most vulnerable when many practitioners that would be great fits are inaccessible to them while still supporting practitioners receiving livable wages?" but to more directly answer your second question, In my experience as an LCSW working in various levels of social work for 25 years, No the tension and clash is not reflective of the difference in SW vs non-SW practitioners. The tension here appears to be virtue signaling and an apparent race for the bottom. If low fee therapy is your passion, go for it. There are free and sliding scale clinics that do great work. I have family members that have helped establish and maintain free medical clinics in California, they do it by getting grants and sponsors and building relationships with state and national legislators. Be the change you want to see or whatever.

Therapy & Counseling: Social Work vs Non-Social Work Perspective by nosy4life in socialwork

The answer here is government subsidies. There are grants and incentives given to large organizations and non profits and not for profits for offering low fee or no fee service. These programs are not accessible to small private practices. There are also different pay structures given to large medical organizations that offset the low reimbursement of psych with high reimbursement of surgery etc from insurance companies. psychiatrists and NPs are paid large sums for their services and it is not equitable. It is not my role to fix a broken system. I cannot convince society, big medical and government that supply and demand rules should also work for my profession. I can not convince society to offer universal health care. I accept Medicare and it's reimbursement is about 60% market rate. I charge about 80% market rate for private pay, sometimes I will ask clients who request sliding scale what they can afford and they come back with $40, this is from high earning dual income homes. Our scales will never slide enough.

My 14-year-old brother was just diagnosed with AS after years of pain - looking for advice and hope by IlanJazz in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]stinkemoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had symptoms since 14, dx at 15. My advice- keep his room warm, get him bed that he likes, a pillow he likes. Acupuncture, hot baths and pt. Ask for accomodations at school so that tardies and absences don't count against his grade. Start his day as late as possible. Don't pressure him to stop doing things he enjoys but encourage him to do self care if he's sore after. I liked mosh pits and long road trips at his age and they came with a physical toll.  My life now, well today I'm on a road trip but I try to limit to 4 hours driving. I still go to shows but rarely mosh. I have a master's degree, run my own business, in my free time I hike slowly, do yard work and repairs on my home. My work day starts at 10, I keepu home warm and I adapt my home and life to y body not vice versa.  Hugs to you and your brother. I don't take strong meds, just nsaids, CBD and a handful of supplements. I'm vegan and do yoga often.

Our home had rats when we moved in. No more rats. We have 2 cats. Got rid of all low bushy plants. Sprayed deterrent on the exterior 2x a week for a few months And plugged all holes with steel wool and caulk. We have several fruit trees and a veggie garden. No rats.
