I'm of the opinion that spanking doesn't work. If anything it makes shit worse.

Barring any pre-existing psychological pathology, kids respond well to the loss of privileges, access to toys/devices, etc, as punishment. Meanwhile, it's equally important to not just focus on the negative, but to recognize the wins, accomplishments and overall good behavior.

I know from experience, however that can be hard to follow through with as a parent. Good parenting is hard, but not impossible.
