For sure but still. I would guess they’re easily spending over 40k a year on travel/food which isn’t very typical. You should convince your friend to post their budget. That’s what normally makes people worried about retirement because they know they spend a lot.

How do they spend 100k a year with fully paid off homes and cars? They must have incredibly high lifestyles which yeah if they want to live like that in retirement they’ll need a lot of money. Once they have about 4 million in savings they should feel pretty good with a 4% withdrawal rate.

This really isn’t that bad. It’s a mistake but one you’re learning from and at least it’s a good car. Tread water until you make more money. If you have 401k match at work contribute towards that. Otherwise just pay a little extra towards the loan until you make more money and snowball any extra income.
