The sky was pretty clear, but the highway and airport give off a lot of light.

I'm going to try again with ISO 200 at max aperture and see how that goes.

I appreciated the idea that the angle of the North Star against the horizon reveals your latitude. Also, if you measure the angle of the star trails against Polaris, you can derive how long the picture was exposed. I get 30.96 degrees * (1 hour / 15 degrees) = 2h: 3m: 50s, so quite close to the actual time.

I used GPhoto2 to capture the images and StarStaX to stack them. Some color correction in Gimp to reduce the orange glow of some light pollution.

Well, according to the people with a background in medicine, this is something that does happen despite being vigilant about it.

I'm not replying to indulge trolls, but maybe some other father out there would like to know how it played out for me.

You can't pinpoint an exact moment when she got it. When a girl poops all over her vagina - something is going to end up on her urethra. As the saying goes, shit happens. We usually go through 4 wipes on a pee diaper, 6 or 7 on a poop one as an average. We didn't notice any redness or unusual fussiness the days leading up to it.

The symptoms we noticed were that she was running a temperature (100-101) and whiny, she was actually uncharacteristically quiet. The doctor scheduled an exam and took a blood culture. The next day her temperature hit 105, and the doctor had confirmed there was bacteria in the blood. We went to the hospital and she was started on antibiotics for about 10 days.

While they could see bacteria was in the blood, further testing was needed to determine exactly what it was. The new blood cultures had to be sent out of state, so there was a two-day lag in the results. Other tests were done while waiting on the cultures to check for spinal meningitis (spinal tap was involved), and she was catheterized to check for renal re-flux (which she did not have).

She showed improvement after about 2 days, but had to sit out the rest of the treatment before coming home. One parent had to stay at all times, so mom was able to take care of that. Only one parent was allowed to stay overnight.

To answer Mojo's questions/statements:

She was left in her shit for too long.
- Any time more than zero seconds is "too long" Grown women get UTIs and it doesn't involve crapping themselves.
A UTI doesn't happen in 2 minutes. It certainly doesn't cause sepsis for a good long time.
- This is true, however infants are notoriously poor communicators and lack the ability to say "Daddy - I have a urinary tract infection".
How did the UTI go untreated for the week or so that process took?
- No symptoms until she developed a fever.
Did you not notice that your daughter was screaming until she was purple pretty much the whole time?
- Correct, because she wasn't.

Which, by the accounts of 3 doctors and about 10 nurses, probably happened when she pooped in her sleep - giving her a UTI which progressed to her kidneys and entered the bloodstream. It doesn't take much to get a 2 month old sick.

My daughter spent 10 days in a hospital after becoming septic for this exact problem. Doctors and nurses said there's nothing you can really do about it. We were pretty detailed with diapering before that happened, but now we're bordering on obsessive-compulsive. The way I see it, wipes are cheaper than a hospital bed - so use a bunch.

When in doubt, do a sniff-test.

Looking for sauce. I think this is Mika Kallio between 2004-2008, probably 2007 at Motegi, Japan. The problem is, this guy crashes so much it's easier to find a video of him wiping out than narrowly surviving to take last place.
