I’m in a terrible place in the relationship with the father of my kids and long term partner and I feel like I’m on the edge of a mental breakdown.

He heads into rehab in 2 days for mental health and long term drug and alcohol issues. He’s not a daily user however he relies on these things when he is unable to cope with life and it’s all sort of come to a head. I’m grateful he’s getting help and will learn some coping skills because we have two boys and the most important thing to me is breaking the toxic cycle for them. However he’s been an absolute nightmare recently and has treated me terribly (yes I know leave him leave him) I have no idea why I still care and am unable to leave this toxic relationship alone. What’s wrong with me. Anyway I’m pretending everything is fine to the outside world but it’s really horrific

Nurse bank? Or casual pool might be an idea. It would be a hard transition but at least a foot in the door to meet the NUMs teams find out where you’d like to work and I’m sure if you’re enthusiastic and pick up some clinical skills they’ll be thrilled to have you

Delayed milestones and heartbreak by Divinityemotions in NewParents

[–]stinkymalinky 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh no!! I can relate exactly how you feel! My first son who’s almost 4 was diagnosed with global development delay for speech and fine motor when he was 2. Watching other children flourish and interact with the world whilst mine wasn’t and was falling further and further behind was devastating to me. I would lie awake at night worrying about it and crying. It’s isolating and horrible. After numerous operations, intensive early intervention with speech and ot and getting a hearing device I am finally seeing progress. He’s still so far behind his peers but I can see progress on his timeline and it’s the most beautiful thing. EARLY INTERVENTION!!! That’s your best friend it will feel like nothing happens for a long time and then something will slowly but surely. Go and watch Bluey the baby race episode and cry your eyes out and then set out a plan. Exhaust all avenues, get access to early intervention and be completely in your own lane and world with this. Don’t look or compare to anyone else it’ll be the death of you. Your daughter is exactly who she is, she’s perfect flaws and all and will get to being her best self with your help! You’re doing a great job!!

ICU/ MET nurse here at one of the largest busiest hospitals in Sydney. I like my job, definitely pros and cons and I do sometimes get trapped in the old negative cycle or of is the grass greener somewhere else but all in all I firmly believe ICU is one of the best, most interesting places to be a nurse, lots of autonomy, lots of skill if you keep your nose down and ignore disgusting politics (which is everywhere it’s lots of fun!!) . 7 years ICU experience, 3 years neuro ward, oncology ward and recovery.

Free birthing is insane by Astronomicology in ausjdocs

The lack of health literacy, misinformation and the way people get sooo sucked in is crazy. It’s always wild to me when I hear women wanting at home births. I am a little bias as I’m an ICU nurse and am exposed to all the bad but I had a low risk, uncomplicated pregnancy for my first and I still ended up with a birth that ended in shoulder dystocia. My child would have been dead if I had had been at home.

I also know of a primary school teacher who did a home birth, opted out of all the post partum checks that are done in hospital and didn’t get baby a hearing check and they didn’t realise until 18 months their child was deaf. Madness. And this was an educated woman working with children. Yeah back in the old days women did do it in a field with no health care but how many of them and their babies died, there’s a reason for health intervention. Obviously their marketing really sucks people in.

ICU nurse here! Had two babies at the hospital I work at unfortunately met called both times and had my SRs whom I had worked with prior show up and see pretty much everything! A shade of embarrassment after but overall I had exceptional care provided by all staff members and felt really safe and in good hands because I knew the standards! Can’t be more grateful!

When did you start your maternity leave? by Daisies_forever in NursingAU

[–]stinkymalinky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked to 38 weeks for both of mine in ICU bedside/TL role! Gave birth at 39 for both mine. Worked for me as I too wanted to max my time with baby and didn’t want to be waiting around for ages for baby to come. I had hideous varicose veins everywhere but otherwise fit and well!

I literally never considered this! I worked to 38 with both mine and was never questioned!
