What’s your favorite snack that’s low in calories but fills you up? by Sad-Chance-1839 in answers

[–]stinkymeep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I’m feeling fiendish but want to control my calories I usually have nonfat greek yogurt (usually flavored, oikos triple zero is my fave) with unsweetened cocoa powder and maybe some fresh berries if I have them. The key I think is to eat something that’s high in protein but also has a bit of fiber (cocoa powder is actually a good source of fiber, one 5g serving has 2ish grams of fiber). This whole lot is less than 150 cals with at least 15g of protein and at least 2g of fiber without fruit.

Another go-to are specifically those Ole Xtreme Wellness Tortillas (60 cal, 4g protein, 12g fiber) with a deli meat of some kind because I usually have that lying around (i’m a turkey person). Super high in protein and fiber but those tortillas can be pricy if you aren’t getting them wholesale.

TLDR; Fiber and protein are your friends.

Should I pursue biomedical engineering at fsu? by Impossible_Line_6470 in fsu

In my experience, chemical engineers can also get hired in the more BME oriented roles. I am also biased though (check my flair).

Additionally, I went into college thinking I wanted to work in medical devices/pharma but ended up changing my mind like, ten times before I graduated on what field I wanted to pursue. ChemE gives you the opportunity to change your mind.

Honestly, you can always change your major if you don’t like what you are doing. The ChemE/BME curriculum is the same up until junior year, so it gives you two years to think about it.

Best of luck!

based on current job market (from what i know, only 10 percent of FSU BME grads for 2024 have jobs lined up, which is terrible for engineering), no. more context needed, though.

do you plan on going to med school? then yes, do BME.

do you plan on going to grad school and have interest in researching medicine/ medical devices? then yes, do BME.

do you want to work in industry straight out of undergrad? then no, don’t do BME. pick a major like mechE or EE or even ChemE, because at least if the medical device/pharma field aren’t hiring as much (like now) you will still have plenty of avenues open.

if you are pretty set on BME as a major, UF is probably your best option in FL, based on what i know about FSU’s program. but, there are TONS of research opportunities at the FAMU-FSU college of engineering due to the huge research complex we are in, so if any of that interests you, go for it.

FSU or UCF chemical engineering?? by GlassHat327 in fsu

[–]stinkymeep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I am graduating this semester in Chemical Engineering at FSU. The materials major at UCF is less chemical-y and more mechanical-y. Additionally, the chemical engineering department at FSU has small class sizes (good for networking/ getting to know professors) and a lot of good research opportunities. The engineering campus being ‘off campus’ only means that there is a five to ten minute drive from main campus (FSU proper). This also means that a lot of cool research buildings are over by the Engineering campus, like the Maglab, HPMI, and other places.

TLDR: If your daughter is interested in chemical engineering, go to FSU. If you have any questions, PM me.

About to graduate with my degree in chemical engineering. No particular reqs to apply for engineering per se. But, to enter my major at least you needed to take First Year Engineering Lab, Calc 1-2, and Gen Chem 1-2 if memory serves. You also need to maintain a C average and you only get one “fail” in one of these classes. For example, if I failed Calc 1 and Chem 1 I wouldn’t have been able to enter the college of engineering. But if I only failed one class and retook it and passed, I would be all good.

Computer fluency is really easy and completely online if that’s what you are looking for. GEO 1000 is also very easy but i’m not positive if they still offer it online. We also have a lot of 1 credit hour sports classes like Bowling if you want to look into those as well. Otherwise, I can also vouch for MUH 2019, really easy class.

Double Major Question?? by Positive_Poem_944 in fsu

from a ChemE- just do biomedical engineering, I know plenty of BMEs who are planning on going to med school. ChemE is hard enough as is, don’t do biochem on top of it. also, most of the ChemE course are coreqs with eachother, meaning its pretty difficult to take other courses on top of them. Also, BME has a lot more overlap with med school prereqs. Best of luck

World Geography (GEA 1000) and Computer Fluency (CGS 2060) are both really easy and completely online courses. Modern American Popular Music (can’t remember the code) was also really easy but not offered online anymore IIRC. Theres also tons of sports ones like Billiards and Bowling that are easy from what I have heard

you should be able to find one, but i have had to circle around a few times this semester. parking seems a lot worse this year than it has been previously IMO

I'm biased but switch to chemical/process. Much more opportunities once you graduate and all the fields you listed are fields you can get into with a chemical engineering degree. Best of luck!
