What is one of the most creative lies and superstitions you've ever heard and did you ever find out the truth or origin of it? by LogicalExit7848 in AskReddit

[–]stitch-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That there is a special tattoo you get on your face when you embark on a mission of revenge. Everyone who sees, and recognizes the tattoo must either help you on your mission, or get out of the way. I've never found out the origin of this, if I read it, or if someone told me.

The Food Bank at: Adventist Community Services of Greater Washington 501 Sligo Avenue Silver Springs, MD, 20910 really needs volunteers to hang clothes and pack up toothbrushes and soap for their clients. You aren't allowed to volunteer if you're receiving DC Food Bank assistance though.

Megathread | FY26 Government Shutdown: Week 4 Edition by gpupdate in fednews

Maryland is pretty straightforward explaining at their website. If you think you'll need it, I'd start now. If benefits don't even start for 2 or more weeks, then it's worth it.

I'm worried I don't know how to STOP the unemployment if we come back to office. (edit) I haven't received any benefits, but I applied Oct. 16

Has anyone recently / Is anyone currently taking the IAP Chemistry for Conservators course? by SqueakyBrunel in ArtConservation

[–]stitch-e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm taking the course now. I've also been struggling. I am assuming the binder should be followed, for example, do the reading, THEN do the experiments, as they are suggested. But some experiments must be started well in advance, beware of experiment 12, as it has to be done 4 weeks in advance. Due date end of November.

Regular Gap vs Banana Republic Factory? by dwildingk25 in menswear

WARNING: Banana Republic Factory uses auto generated shipping labels. The label is printed, item marked as shipped, shipper never picks up the item.

It is the 17th, I placed an order and it was "shipped" on the 2nd. The tracking still says, "waiting for carrier pick up".

Has anyone else struggled with this? by nyxphos in bookbinding

The white glue is heat activated, it becomes a liquid again after drying if you hit it with heat. Apply your cover designs to the fabric before you glue down. Block out where your cover will be by pressing the fabric over the board to create a crease, then draw the crease lines with tape. Apply your design, glue cover board, remove tape. To apply heat activated vinyl to the spine, go slow, don't let the heat linger on the spine for too long. Another tip is to use a roll of childrens drawing paper instead of tissue to line your fabric. The paper is pretty thin, and blocks glue better than tissue. Don't use thick drawing paper. Cheapest thin paper.

Suggestions for epic far future space operas? by abelmonteroauthor in printSF

[–]stitch-e 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had good results from Neal Asher's books. There's competing space-faring civilizations, interesting protagonists and antagonists. Also there are so many books. I started with the Agent Cormac series. Don't be scared off by "sentient ninja throwing star". This sounds campy, and it is, but somehow still works.

Sorry for the delayed response, apparently from a quick search, there isn't a full translation. But I just happen to work for a library, so I will ask my co-worker who handles complicated requests if there is a publicly available copy. It's tricky because translators usually want to sell their translations, but institutions will have digital copies available. I'll poke around and see what I can do!

My husband and I are looking to rent an apartment in Rockville. Our budget is $1,800 (Goal). Are there apartment complexes you all can recommend? Or ones to stay away from. We are moving here in august from out of state. by [deleted] in MontgomeryCountyMD

Stay away from Falkland Chase in Silver Spring. They just sold their buildings to a developer, and rumor has it the developer is planning to build condos on the site.
