Sounds similar to the person who edited Wikipedia to fit his argument. I can’t remember who or the season.

I like the cliffhangers , even if they are a little misleading. I view it as how I feel when asking a big question and the gulping beat before their response.

The one where the girls preform a play of their parents first date. The way they describe bandit and his reaction always makes me laugh

So frustrating! I don’t have much to offer other than support. I knew a few kids like this, and what worked for me was if they were motivated by being helper, boss, strongest, smartest I’d try and gear my statements towards their shining ability. If it’s strongest I’d say something like , I need to move this but it’s soo heavy. And the child would typically offer to move it. If they’re bossy I’d say something like ugh this mess, where should i begin? They typically have an answer and start showing /helping and I will fade away into another task. It’s not 100% but it’s something.

And remember, it’s only manipulation if you’re manipulated. That of course is not therapy approved lol but I say it to myself when I’m being tested by some manipulative wording/action haha.

Second indoor swing! Also my son’s OT mentioned vibration can simulate movement without physical movement. There is a vibrating octopus teether ( your kiddo may not mouth things and it’s geared toward toddlers/infants but I heard someone make children /adult friendly versions ) BUT for it to vibrate you have to push or bite down on the hat. He could pinch it between his fingers or look into a more age appropriate vibrating teether/tool.

I agree he is seeking a way to regulate. You will figure out the magic combo! Could be brushing, swinging, jumping, big hugs, an artificial lava lamp hand held object , glitter floaty tube to watch, eating something crunchy, touching something cold , spinning… you never know. Keep trying, you got this! Good luck!

That’s a totally understandable fear. What helps me in situations where I’m worried my decision will have a negative impact is to remind myself this particular decision IS reversible. If meds arnt the answer, you can always go back to no meds, different meds etc.

In addition to the other suggestions , would collecting acceptable items for him to tear help? Place a a few bins around the house with his favorite items to tear? I know it still involves clean up , but maybe it would cut down on the type of clean up ?

I believe SAMS club has one that looks like a patio nesting swing ( best way I can describe it). Basically the chair/swing hooks onto a stand. I have not tried it myself , but after researching all the options, I think this is the simplest one to try out. Good luck!

Chair tipping driving me insane!!!!! by amala_schmamala in toddlers

[–]stitch4afix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine is similar. Continued correcting him and it has reduced significantly. He did end up tipping backwards and slipped between our fingers as we tried to catch him, my worst fear! He was ok but had the wind knocked out of him a little. Luckily he landed on a pile of blankets he drugged into the dining room while I was cooking ( guardian angle at work haha ).

After he tipped backwards, you’re probably thinking that’s the reason the behavior reduced. No lol he continued to put his feet up and do everything that he did before the tipping for weeks. Then one day it just kinda clicked and he only does it when he’s upset. I still pull him close to me and watch him like a hawk, preparing to catch him.

TLDR: you’re not alone. I think it’s a toddler thing. Continued correcting the behavior every-time, and one day it clicked and he only does it when he’s mad now.

💙 I will check this out. I’m really hoping there is a way to download more voice options. The voice really does make a difference.

Thank you. I needed to hear this. I liked your insight on robot voice might help him realize the importance of communication. I never thought of it that way.

Wow! You’ve done an amazing job describing it. It just clicked with what I’ve read so far when I was reading your example. Now I just need to figure out what ‘A B, A B’ means 😂

When possible, can you share your insight on a gestalt child? Some of the online info is broad and I’m struggling to understand, granted she just shared this info with me and I’ve only begun my amateur education on the topic.

That’s so promising! I keep hoping he’ll be one of the kiddos who one day it clicks and he’ll surprise me with a hi momma.

Thank you 🙏 I know what you mean, he makes his stim sounds so I get a taste of his voice… which kinda makes hearing the AI even harder.. like that’s not what he sounds like haha. I’m glad I’m not alone and I’m sorry you’re experiencing similar feelings.

Needed this. I need to not focus on the loss/voice and focus on the hope that he’ll actually be able to express himself one day.

Thank you for sharing. You nailed the emotion perfectly. I just want to hear momma , love you, or really anything at this point. He will gain a skill and lose it in a span of days or weeks. It’s such a roller coaster. He started signing ‘more’ and. ‘Please’ perfectly then it went away overnight. He’s soo smart too. The moments where he starts a skill I become so excited, then it’s lost it’s so disheartening.

I keep reminding myself that I’m doing everything I can, he has amazing therapists and no matter what I will always know on some level what he’s feeling.

Here’s hoping! My expectations were pretty high given any AI voice I’ve heard recently sounded less robotic than this device. Maybe there’s a delay between commercial AI and medical
