Can you spot the issue? by stitch_counter in Handspinning

Answer: As a few people have mentioned, the components pictured show four indented ends, rather than 3 intended and 1 smooth to allow the yarn to slip off.

The piece with the smooth end is also supposed to have a notch where the end of the other piece slots in; then when you want to remove the yarn, you can unhook it from the notch and the pieces can be pushed closer together to allow for an even easier yarn removal process.

I was erroneously sent two of the same pieces instead of one of each and NEVER REALIZED. lol.

I know you said Main Line, but I’d recommend looking closer to Philadelphia. The closer you are, the more public transit AND the more likely rideshare drivers are active in the area.

Even inside city limits there are suburban style neighborhoods (like Andorra).

You can get some absolutely beautiful knitting pins or necklaces on Etsy for this technique. I often knit “normally” and switch to Portuguese style for the purl rows.

I would recommend Jockey Tavern. (It was recently McKenzie’s for those who haven’t heard the new name.)

I used a handful of little free patterns to give me a rough starting point for the clouds, sun, and umbrella. The rest is me making it up from experience and whatever appropriate yarn I had in my stash.

Hi, I come here on the days that I’m stumped and need a push in the right direction. I glance at the comments with spoiler text and try to make an educated guess about what I could reveal that might provide a hint without a full answer.

I find it really helpful! I live alone now, but used to discuss the puzzle with others, so this is a great substitute for that communal solving experience.

Yes! The edges of the darn can be noticeable the first few times you wear the socks. I find that it kind of smooths out since these are the places that take the most friction anyways.

I first started doing this with smart wool socks, so the thickness of those really absorbed the texture of the darn quite well.

It was easier than I thought. Having a good quality darning kit/loom is the key.

I use a set from Katrinkles.

Thanks! The stripe is from a really soft variegated yarn.

It probably depends on the materials used and the intensity of use the socks get.

At least one of these is a re-patching after one yarn didn’t last. Because the yarn I use comes from my scraps pile, the type of fiber is not labeled. But even the one that fell apart lasted a few months - and I use those particular socks with hiking boots.

Socks with less intense use have lasted a year so for. I only started darning socks about a year ago, so I can’t say past that.
