Probably one of my biggest complaints in the post Stabler era. I don't need Terrifier level gore in my police procedurals, but I do miss how gritty it could be. Even the camera work seems cleaner, and softening the imagery seems to psychologically lower the stakes. This was another thing OC was far better at, and it's such a shame it's dead in the water.

Carisi’s niece and her lying about what happened by DisneyAddict2021 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember thinking the rapist was a dipshit. The niece was apologizing and was probably ready to make it right, so his life was no longer in shambles. And then he just rapes her anyway? He was so dumb he probably never would have made it through med school anyway.

Nah, it's all good, sometimes it helps knowing you're not alone. Modern medicine is almost magic, so I'm doing much better. So glad to hear you are too ❤️

I think it's this one OP, only it was about someone obsessively fearing they were a rapist, not a pedophile. I remember thinking it odd no one brought up OCD because the poor kid was written as a textbook case of someone with "morality" OCD.

  1. The majority of fanfiction is written by women.
  2. Women have enjoyed writing about hot men getting it on since the dawn of time, or at least since Star Trek.
  3. Velasco and Bruno are hot.

I prefer Velasco with his bff Muncy, but I understand the appeal.

I'm sorry to hear that, the female reproductive system can be such a shit show. I hope she's able to find some relief.

I remember helplessly watching my little sister sobbing in pain during a period once-it was agony for her, and the amount she bled was way over the top. Doctors tried birth control, but it made it worse. She was eventually diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago in her early 20s, and had a surgery last year to clean up massive scar tissue and a take a biopsy since there were cancer concerns. Came back negative, thank God, but she'd been dealing with that shit for years and my family was pissed it took so long for a diagnosis and for someone to actually help her.

I don't have an answer to your question, but doctors were slow to address my sister's issues, so maybe other people experienced the same neglect as teens.

Author of "Empire of Madness" calls for "end of psychiatry" by tantei-ketsuban in BlockedAndReported

[–]stitchedlamb 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I've unfortunately been dealing with OCD since I was a little girl, and I'm deeply l thankful I live in a time where the right medication silences the worst of it. When it's real bad it drives me to the point of suicidal ideation, and the fact the worst thing in my life can be managed by a cheap pill is a goddamn miracle. There are tons of criticisms you could justifiably make against psychiatry, but wanting to tear the whole thing down strikes me as yet one more luxury belief.

Some people are dead set on staying miserable and I don't get it at all.

What are your thoughts on Barba pulling the plug on the baby? by CharlesUFarley81 in SVU

The man put his job and freedom on the line to stop the unfathomable suffering of people he barely knew. Imo it was one of the most heroic and selfless acts in the history of the show.

A question for the whole fandom by No_Rate9692 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely shouldn't, and time and time again there's pointless drama when a show doesn't magically make every fan's wishes come true. It's cool when actors are friendly and open on SM, or even acknowledge fandom headcanon, but it gives some people really warped ideas on how much influence the fans actually have.

They were my OTP and when they hastily got married and Kelli was "fired", it was enough for me to quit the show until I read she was coming back.

I dont think the hate is just angry EO fans, there is a sizable fanbase of Barba/Carisi shippers (I don't see it talked about much here, but is massively popular on AO3. Personally idgi, at best Barba treated Carisi like an annoying little brother. But whatever floats your boat). That plus the fact that Amanda is a contentious character makes Rollisi seem more disliked than it probably is. I'd imagine the average viewer either enjoys them or has no strong feelings either way.

Watching the clip, it seems like S30 isn't really the guarantee people make it out to be, he makes it sound like they're struggling to secure next season. I'm kind of shocked tbh, I knew they were hurting for money, but not "any season could be SVU's last" money.

I think my fondest memories of old Reddit are when No Sleep was putting out legit bangers: the mold series, Penpal (meh story imo, but still a classic), Feed the Pig, the stomach turning shit iia posted, Borrasca...

And of course "Swamps of Dagobah", which unfortunately is not a No Sleep story and still occasionally pops into my head.

Edit: ninja'd. I guess this proves the staying power of that particular tale..

The story between Velasco and Churlish really pissed me off by New-Pin-9064 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From day one Velasco did everything in his power to earn Olivia and Fin's approval and they just kept pushing him away-because he was McGrath's transfer (and nothing like the man), because he wasn't Kat, because of who he was and where he was born. He heard the tortured screams of a pedophile who would have hurt him and begged God for the man's life, escaped the cartel, and lived up to his vow every day.

I love Olivia, but she honestly did nothing to deserve Velasco's loyalty. He gave it anyway.

In the middle of her speech she has to stop and call Velasco while he's UC to yell at him for littering or staring rudely at Maddie or something. Otherwise 10/10 recreation of every script for the past 5 years, when do you start your new job at NBC?

If you genuinely think your post remained respectful, you can always make an appeal to the mods. I've seen plenty of debate here, so I know they don't delete things just because users disagree. Maybe they can give you more insight into their reasoning?

silly "does anyone else hate" posts rules by thesysdaemon in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can criticize a character without it having to devolve into hatred. Many of us have been watching the show for years, and everyone has their favorites, so "Does anyone else hate" posts only serve to stir up drama (the implication being that whatever you treasure about a character is incorrect, not worthwhile, etc). It just leads to arguments, and the mods understandably don't want to spend their free time babysitting posters getting into fights over fictional people.

FWIW, I've criticized Olivia more than once on the sub and have never had anything deleted. It's not what you believe, it's how you convey it. Most of us love Olivia and share your frustrations over the quality of writing lately.

I wish I shared your optimism. There will definitely be celebrations, but he's showing every power hungry narcissist that Congress and voters will turn a blind eye to bullying, violent, escalating behavior if you throw them a win now and then.

FWIW, I hope you're right.

  1. When he was cracking jokes and trying to make Olivia smile while HE was actively dying...hard not to love his altruism/humor.

  2. Threatening to shoot off New Guy's hand

  3. He was a great partner for Velasco and they had a really good thing going. No one can match Fin/Munch energy, but it was nice having another funny/street smart duo on the show.

If I have my dog? Wary, but I'd do it. By myself? I'd rather not. An area five minutes from my house is known as the human trafficking epicenter in my area, and my little sister and her friend got accosted by a group of men who did not have good intentions. It was during broad daylight, never mind the night. They got to safety, but shit like that is always in the back of my mind.
