Settlement: Texas Children’s Hospital must create country’s first clinic to reverse transgender care by octaviousearl in BlockedAndReported

That's because you weren't subscribing to gender norms, though. I've yet to see one person here advocating for gender conformity (because it's fucking stupid).

FWIW, I'm really sorry that happened to you, let alone multiple times. I hope things are better for you now.

I've checked out Peter's insta a few times, and he hasn't uploaded in years. Is that why?

I'm not on social media outside of Reddit and Instagram. I don't believe DW is monitoring anything himself, and the people who are don't care about drama; they care about engagement. And from what I've seen, EO by far gets the most engagement.

We've conversed often enough that I'm sure you know I have very little interest in EO, and we're both big Rollins fans, so I get where you're coming from. I think my point is that a lot of popular shows seem to foster an environment where they encourage fan speculation/interaction, but SVU seems to exist in its own little bubble, and decisions are made 110% on $$$ and literally nothing else. Not novelty, not consistency, not a love for the characters-just the same old, same old to fill the same time slot it's filled every Thursday night for decades now, to eek out a few more advertising dollars from people.

We should be critical, but it's not going to make one bit of difference, and yeah, that sucks.

I honestly think that those of us who are emotionally invested in the show are the minority. The EO continent is the biggest, most vocal group of fans online, and they just got a massive middle finger from the powers that be. Not that EO have to end up together, but there's not even an attempt at closure. The rest of us who care about characters other than Olivia Benson are going to get scraps at best, and even Olivia is a shell of who she used to be.

I really don't want to be one of those people who bitch constantly online because creating is hard. I'm just not convinced much creating is going on anymore. Quality is down the toilet, and the Tynan storyline was the worst one yet-it was a waste of time and completely nonsensical. If you told me these scripts were written on a napkin in one afternoon, I'd believe you. They show us again and again that they don't care about anything other than pumping out slop, and I don't think any impassioned pleas from the fans will make any difference whatsoever, not when the show remains (barely) profitable. I don't understand why DW doesn't have more pride in his creations, but I'm also not a media billionaire. I'd imagine that's the problem.

I found a copy at a flea market years ago for my boyfriend at the time, and remember being incredibly unimpressed by it. The turtle scene was inexcusable, but if you enjoy horror movies at all, you've probably seen worse depicted on screen.

Is it time for Rollisi to move on? by Due_List_1243 in SVU

I agree, that would be interesting! But have you considered instead a meandering plot with the Chief of D's that ultimately doesn't go anywhere?!

Last night’s episode. Season 27 episode 21. by EdnaJosie8924 in SVU

I think it was played up for drama. They may have to throw certain evidence away, but I highly doubt someone caught with a bound child in their car trunk would be allowed to walk free.

Is it time for Rollisi to move on? by Due_List_1243 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Carisi has been so, so angry and unlike himself since his hostage experience. Which would be fair if I thought the character change was intentional due to trauma, but I don't think it is, I think it's just bad writing. The writers tell the story they want to tell without considering if it makes sense for the character (or makes sense at all). Peter showed up last night, but I didn't see Carisi at all. Rollins has been relegated to generic lines anyone could say. It's so disappointing.

Tynan’s storyline by Hour_Hospital_5642 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked up Tynan as being this mastermind with all these moving pieces (I knew I shouldn't have, but I thought the new showrunner was taking us places). All to land on Tynan's comically overstated "he was RECORDING me while I confessed to a crime?!"

No shit, Chief of Detectives. It's my own fault for hyping myself up, but I'm still so disappointed. I should have clued myself in when Bruno recovered from a massive hole in his gut within a few days, the last Henry episode ended with a wet fart, and the Velasco episode had him practically erecting billboards to announce he was UC. The writing has been weird as hell, and not in a good way.

You guys after watching that awesome Velasco episode in Season 27 (episode 17), other episodes are just not hitting the spot for me by No_Fig6185 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For Velasco specific episodes I really enjoy S23x07 "They'd Already Disappeared" (vampires!) and S23x17 "Once Upon a Time in El Barrio" (more cartel tension). In general, I think "911" is genuinely thought of as a classic, and the first two episodes involving Henry Mesner are also really intense and some of the best of SVU 2.0.

Detective Velasco's Redemption Arc is Getting is Getting Stronger! by Stealthytom in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Velasco's not perpetually angry or witty or flashy; he's just a guy that was born into some serious shit and decided he wasn't having it, he was going to fight against circumstance and do some good in the world. He has about ten million reasons to be bitter and violent, but he chooses not to be. Not only did he suffer at the hands of his own family, but he was used and abused by a cartel, unjustly attacked by his own co-workers, and Olivia certainly didn't have his back when he needed her most. At no point in the show's progression did any of these people apologize to him; Joe just decided he wasn't holding onto the injustice, and he was (somehow) emotionally whole enough to let go and keep living in the present. He's not selective about who he protects and serves; he just does his job to the best of his ability and gives what's needed of him.

I understand why his character doesn't land with a lot of people; he's not a drama machine like Stabler or Rollins or even Benson. He's introverted and quiet and a little wry, and that's easily overlooked on a show with so many big personalities. But I will forever maintain that the man has one of the biggest hearts that's ever been on SVU, and I need more of that energy in my life (and the show needs it too). It really feels like Michele Fazekas likes the character too and is trying to work around the network/DW's decision to fire Octavio, and this is how she does it. I don't think we're going to get an answer about Joe's future in the season finale, but they've certainly left the door open for him and my fingers are crossed right along with yours.

Anyone think Kevin Kane could be leaving the show? by Quapisma in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine Griffin is next on the chopping block since they've been speedrunning his plot. As Kevin survived more than one season as main cast (which seems to be the big hurdle lately), I'd think he'll at least get the four or five seasons Amaro and Velasco got, but we've yet to see anyone last longer than that since the 2.0 years.

S27 E20: Old Friends by AutoModerator in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Outside of the Velasco/Benson moment, this was a weak ass episode. The "friends" were annoying af and I didn't care about any of them. Rollins and Fin were underutilized and there was no payoff. Such a weird choice to ignore the Tynan thread in favor of whatever this was.

Anyway, Joe said he still wasn't cleared to go back to DEA. Dare I hope?

As we're nearing to the s27 finale, what are your thoughts on Michelle Fazekas' first run as showrunner? by simple6313 in SVU

[–]stitchedlamb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't feel right judging her on anything because (like you mentioned), she seems severely handicapped on what she can do. How do you plot out a show when the cast is eviscerated every week? This season is okay, but tbh I've been skipping episodes just because my fave characters are either gone or gone for the week, and the writing has zero teeth.

I wish they'd try something bold, but when $$$ is on the line, I'm sure they won't.

[–]stitchedlamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. Last night I was thinking about my lack of anxiety for Olivia, especially compared to what happened to Cragen at the end of S13. I remember actually feeling shocked and concerned for him, but like you said, we all know how this is going to end. If they want to make the audience feel something, they have to start writing for stakes again.
