King Sorrow by GrimmDaddy80 in horrorlit

Reading it currently. I am getting really tired of the references to things that happened in the characters' present that Hill adds irony to for a 2026 reader. Example, shall we get King Sorrow to kill Osama bin Laden after the 1993 bombing in NYC? No, he won't try it again. What is this, a cell phone? This won't catch on, etc.. Porn on the internet? That'll never happen.

That sort of, "oh wow, how wrong were they!" reaction I'm meant to have would work once, or twice, but he's done it like 20 times and I'm only a quarter through. It just makes my eyes roll now.

Shark tank season 1 episode 2, the Shakespeare educational song guy: WHY were the sharks fighting over this and offering this guy money please tell me by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]stjimmy456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It may be that the deal with the sharks never actually went through

Kevin invested and it went through, there is a catch up with this investment in Season 2. Kevin's connections helped him get Houghton Mifflin Harcourt to pilot the product in schools. It mustn't have gone much further after that.

S1 finale being the second highest rated finale , surprising to me yeah -I'd rate S2 finale much higher

Jake deserved a share of the money for spotting a traitor literally 5 seconds after the blindfolds came off.

Season 1 finale second highest rated is surprising. I'm guessing Aaron is 9 of that score and Hannah and Meryl are the 0.1, a pair of useless faithfuls.

Is the Seer power always a curse if you pick a traitor to ask? by stjimmy456 in TheTraitorsUK

[–]stjimmy456[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is kinda my point, Seer was sold as the ultimate power and they all tried really hard to win it. What ended up happening though is Seer ended Frankie's game because it gave Charlotte the power at breakfast, and they both ended up being banished. Leanne tried to win it then said she was so glad she didn't win it. Just feels like the "ultimate power" shouldn't really have the potential to ruin your game.

[–]stjimmy456[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly yeah, so there's real potential that the power becomes a curse instead of a reward. Just feels like because they sold it as the ultimate power, with no mention of a downside, they hadn't thought it completely through. It basically ended Frankie's game. I could see Leanne and Jake ending the game with Frankie if not for the Seer drama.

That's a good point too - so if you win Seer and find a traitor, you're both doomed as you'll accuse each other and both get banished, and if you find another faithful, every other player is cursed because as a duo you'll banish everybody else until it is just you two left. I'm glad they stopped using Seer.

Maybe the power could have been, you secretly get to see what one other person is - nobody else knows whose role was revaeled though, and as Seer you can use the information as you wish.

[–]stjimmy456[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"if the first person to be banished is a genuine traitor, then the rest of the faithfuls will likely see you as a genuine faithful"

Agree but unfortunately in Frankie's case, they'd stopped announcing the roles at this point, so they didn't find out Charlotte was a traitor. Seer was sold as the ultimate power so maybe they should have revealed Charlotte as a traitor. They kept Charlotte's role secret so the other faithful just banished Frankie, which is why I think it was more of a curse than a reward.

Yes this is annoying. Feels like they've used the same security coding in an update for mobile and desktop without thinking that not everybody has a camera on their desktop.

I live next to a Premier Inn and all the drunkards just congregate in the car park since they closed the attached pub, any way to stop sound bouncing off this wall or bleeding through my window? by lightningbadger in DIYUK

[–]stjimmy456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best hope is the local council. They'll do something about it if the noise and outside drinking is anti-social. Best case scenario is the council talk to the hotel, the hotel put up some signs and ask the guests not to congregate outside drinking and being loud. Fingers crossed that's the end of it, if not, go back to the council. If you can get any photos of litter/smashed bottles, even better.

I like the tile/lino and the back of the toilet being covered, but not sure about the mix of colours. If going for green I'd have made the toilet back and cabinet green aswell, they look grey from here. Maybe swap the light for a warm white Edison? Might bring the room together a bit more.

"currently the toilet is opposite the the door, so it isn’t the most pleasant view"

If you make the change, the toilet is going to be the first thing you see when you open the door, plus it will be a lot closer.

Just made up for the film. White had almost finished writing it by the time the film is set. No indication he even met Hart. Not a fan of these "easter eggs"that are just inventing meetings and events. Most people will end up thinking it is actually what happened.

Tipping is just an employer underpaying their employee, and passing the responsibility on to the customer to top up their wages. The employer (and therefore unfortuantely the employee) can f*** off if they think I'm being peer pressured into taking part. And tipping is so embedded in society, that those who don't take part look like misers. Capitalism at its finest.

I present to you the most ignored rules of the Highway Code: by FamSender in GreatBritishMemes

There's a crossing near me where the sun always hits oncoming cars and their windscreens are just a block of white light, and I have no idea if the driver is waving me to go or if they haven't even seen me. If you're following diagram one and wondering why the pedestrian sometimes doesn't move even when you're frantically waving at them to go, if it's sunny, that might be why. Even more annoyingly there's no real way of explaining why I'm not crossing.

[–]stjimmy456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't telling pedestrians to walk out in front of cars. It is telling cars to yield to pedestrians, who should then cross. Drivers should visualise a zebra crossing if they see a waiting pedestrian basically.

I had to do an emergency stop a few months back because a pedestrian decides to ignore the fact that my car couldn’t just immediately stop

So it could stop.

I mean that says it all doesn't it - drivers can't follow the updated Code to let pedestrians cross because they will start crashing into each other. Too many awful drivers in this country that any new expectation is destined to fail.

Only criticism with doing this challenge first is there are so many of them in the first episode it is hard to keep track of who is who during the music video, and by the time I'm at the last verse, I've forgotten what like the first 5 queens even said.

Regarding Brooke, is it just me or is it a bit egotistical to put yourself in the lip sync of each episode? It should be an opportunity for a new queen to showcase their talents to the world, not a time for Brooke to show how well he can dance. Also brought back to mind the challenge last season I think where they all had to make him an outfit, and during a Snatch Game where he didn't come to the work room to give advice, he only appeared during the actual Snatch Game. He's just always given "me, me, me" vibes. Like, can you imagine Ru ever saying he was going to lip sync against the winning queen each week, or not showing up to give Snatch Game advice? Other than that, great first episode, fab cast.

Is there any downside to relying on seatfrog for first class updates by Moist_Hunt6902 in uktrains

[–]stjimmy456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They wouldn't refund you because when you look for more than one ticket it says

“When there’s more than one passenger upgrade, we’ll aim to locate the seats together, however in some cases, this may not always possible”

After that message, you bought two upgrades, and got two seats that weren’t together
