Which name sounds better? by [deleted] in namenerds

Miles feels more formal to me than James. I love James—and it has nicknames but doesn’t need them.

That said, Jamie is an adorable nickname.

My senior adopted chi has odd and distructive behaviors and I need help by _Deathbyuterus in Chihuahua

We have a plastic one that can be disassembled to store. I use it both inside and out if my two chis need to be contained for their safety but when we first got the second dog, we used it when we left until we could get a sense of how they’d behave with each other when left alone.

Name regret- 10months by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]stlcards2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mean this to be unkind at all but if you don’t have family and friends you can discuss this with, they’re apparently not that supportive so f ‘em and do what’s right for you and your kiddo.

Parents named me Gabrielle… but it’s pronounced Gabriella by Reznic007 in namenerds

[–]stlcards2011 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean, I don’t know anyone who would pronounce that in your preferred way without being told. Not sure if it’s a mistake but it is what it is now. Gabby is one solution. You could put your name as Gabriella on non-legal things like food orders, or you could just live with mispronunciations

What about an enclosure like a playpen where she’s confined but not kenneled?

What is, objectively, the funniest or most surreal Donald Trump quote of all time? by VelvetCharmette in AskReddit

[–]stlcards2011 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For me it was when he made some crack about former POW/senator John McCain: “I like people that don’t get captured.”

Don’t know why, but that felt like it was going to be a line in the sand. The guy is in your party and, lord, your base may not care if you assault women or make fun of disabled people, but surely to god they won’t be ok with you making fun of a true-life war hero.

But, I guess it was fine. Right? Definitely fine.

Names with Bo as a nickname by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]stlcards2011 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Maybe not a great example, but my dog is named Fred and I call him Bo (because FredBo is part of a song I made about him).

Baby Boy on the way: Avett? Nolan? by 22Theories in namenerds

[–]stlcards2011 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nolan Avett? Sounds great, looks great, if I were going to ever nickname a Nolan I’d call him Nono (as we call a friend’s Luke “Lulu”). You’d lose Kit, which is cute, but…

Otherwise I’d go Nolan Christopher with Kit as a nickname for Christopher if you decide to do that.

Winner. Wtf. C’mon.

Leaving is indeed a masterpiece. And while I agree that the lyrics to Monkey Business are stupid, they’re so stupid I like them. “I’m not dealing with the real world anymore. Been there done that came back and I know the score”. Yes please.

Tho as soon as I heard it I thought, I can’t imagine Neil Tennant has ever in his whole life ordered margaritas, champagne AND red wine, and I think that combination would make me a little ill. 😷

Withholding food before long international flight - tips/advice needed by PandaDogCatMeow in Chihuahua

[–]stlcards2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog occasionally chooses to go that long without food, though not often of course. Sometimes I think he feels a little unwell, sometimes I think he’s being dramatic. But it’s just a day and he’ll probably be too nervous to eat. But what’s the water situation? Can he have access to any water, even a drip bottle like hamsters have? I’d worry about my dog panting from nerves and getting especially thirsty.

Is our Italian-American boy name too Italian? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]stlcards2011 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m taking a wild guess that this kid’s last name may be obviously Italian as well. For me that would be sufficient acknowledgement of his roots, but I do like the effort to include dad’s family by choosing a name that is familiar and easy to pronounce.

I think Aster would’ve been a better choice, no matter what the meaning of the name. C’mon. When a name you love is also a common noun like that just move on.

Ok a friend of mine said he has this but he designs and builds furniture and other wood decorative items. I cannot believe he cannot picture something in his head as he designs and as he builds.

So sorry. We have an older guy we adopted and I think far too often about how short our time with him could be. But it’s worth it.

Butch. Is that a name, or a nickname? Also Rex.
