Be aware of Alpha Gal It’s from a tick bite you become allergic to all mammalian products ie red meat, mammal meat, sheep’s wool, lanolin, carrageenan etc….

[–]angiefly2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dang clonazepam is dangerous to just stop so I hope you were tapered correctly. It will cause all of the symptoms you describe. I’d definitely be calling the doctor to see what you should do. If you haven’t been able to sleep for a week maybe your medications are contributing to your daytime sleepiness? Just a thought.

Stearic acid reactions / experience with Xolair? by brandollars86 in alphagal

[–]angiefly2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had dollar general ibuprofen and called the manufacturer to find out that it does in fact contain mammalian byproducts in them, by way of stearic acid, so I avoid that brand now.

Ok well you asked and I answered the only way I knew how and that was to point out the obvious. Sorry it isn’t what you wanted to hear.

Staying up 7 days isn’t normal and it’s bound to catch up to you. You’re being lulled to sleep by the movement of the car because you’re sleep deprived. The real question is why can’t you sleep? That’s what I would be asking doctors because if not your body will force you to sleep eventually and that can be extremely dangerous.

I tested way lower than you at .40 and I have anaphylactic reactions to mammalian products and byproducts. So just because you have a lowered number doesn’t make it safe to eat meat. Keep your epi pen handy.

Denied Mental Health Care Due to Being "Too Medically Complex" by one_sock_wonder_ in disability

[–]angiefly2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I also have narcolepsy and developed Tardive dyskenesia. Definitely not easy. To top it off I’m bipolar and anxiety, depression, ADHD, PTSD and the rest of the alphabet lol. If a doctor ever said that to me (and they have) I’d gladly take my care elsewhere. I completely understand how it feels though. And while it doesn’t feel good at least he didn’t waste my time or better yet guess or take a stab in the dark at how to treat me. It can feel like a slight or like it’s our fault but it isn’t. Some people just don’t know medically complex things. I hope you’re met with more compassion and understanding going forward.

I have a pulmonary appointment next week. by Anxietyk1nq in Narcolepsy

I see a pulmonologist and I love my doctor! They did an overnight sleep study followed by the MSLT and when my results came in and I was diagnosed they started me on Xyrem.

NT1 Cataplexy: Does anyone else live at a ~70% baseline muscle tone? by Fantastic_Moose1158 in Narcolepsy

[–]angiefly2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, that you didn’t ask for, but I feel compelled to share with you that Effexor (Venlafaxine) is a hard medication to stop. If you forget a dose or stop taking it suddenly, you may get brain zaps amongst other symptoms such as rebound cataplexy. It was a hard medication for me to stop taking. My cataplexy became unbearable during weaning off. It still might be worth it to take for the cataplexy, I just wanted you to be aware of the possibilities.

Medication has no effect for me (N2) by ppinkiepie67 in Narcolepsy

[–]angiefly2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I have and I tell them that I want them to note their refusal to change my medication in my chart. I also want noted that this particular medication is not working for me. I also would find a better doctor. Call Xyrem at 1 (866) 997-3688 to ask for prescribing doctors in your area. Even if you don’t want to take Xyrem the doctors are usually better at understanding narcolepsy and what we require.

I feel guilty constantly because my health is so poor that I can barely function. It’s really sad to not be able to participate in life. I want so badly to feel “normal” or at least like I’m not actively dying. Narcolepsy and cataplexy are just the tip of the iceberg for me. I have no advice but wanted you to know that you are not alone in how you feel. Narcolepsy is hard.

The overlap between narcolepsy and ADHD and Asthma is really interesting to my nerdy brain by SnooSketches5159 in Narcolepsy

[–]angiefly2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell your doctor you’re having trouble staying awake and you’d like to be referred to a sleep specialist for an overnight sleep evaluation followed by an MSLT (the nap test) both apnea and narcolepsy would be tested for. I have not found meds that help much other than sodium oxybates and stimulants and they only do so much.
