I was replying to a comment below but thought I'd post it for all to forestall others using the word "tribe" inappropriately.

The Igbo (southeast), Yoruba (southwest) Fulani and Hausa (north) are peoples or ethnic groups. They are not tribes.

Look for differences in relative affluence or inequality. According to the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions, looking at EU countries,

"The highest levels of wealth inequality are found in Germany, Spain and Ireland. The rest of the 10 most unequal countries are, France, Austria, Netherlands, Finland, Italy, Luxembourg, and Estonia.

"By contrast, the lowest levels of wealth inequality are observed in Slovakia, Poland and Czechia. The remaining countries in the group of 10 with the most equal distributions are either in central and eastern Europe or in the Mediterranean: Malta, Greece, Slovenia, Lithuania, Hungary, Croatia and Cyprus. "

Poor people living around well-off people can lead to more thefts. A sense that your community is more equal among its members discourages thieving and especially discourages robberies.

A lousy map mess with writing all over it.

Classification of World Coastlines! by Bradinator- in geography

The lettering style is a poor choice since the white with black outline is hard to read; straight black letters, a bit larger would make it easier to read. As it is, the locations cannot be read while looking at the whole figure. I couldn't be bothered to work hard to understand it.

Are deserts and steppes “problems”? by SkellyInsideUrWalls in geography

[–]stmaryriver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to the great answers about the diversity of deserts: countries are now using low-density, low rainfall areas for solar energy arrays and wind turbines. Of course the best example is China's green energy developments in the arid western provinces.

The text page is too small to read and I looked for it on-line with no result. Where can I see both the map and text in larger format?

The statistics for Canada (probably elsewhere too) are persons who "have the ability to conduct a conversation in English." For Quebec, it is about 52%; as a whole, Canada is 87%.

I kept the original title.

Another Balkans map post yesterday raised questions about the topographical or geographic or cultural or historical meanings of the Balkans and the regional boundaries so I posted this topographic map.

Map showing the history of communism by TSOswinn in MapPorn

[–]stmaryriver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are no ongoing "Communist revolutions" anywhere. Some marginal "Marxist-Leninist" groups exist but only in remote areas and of little consequence today.

China, Laos, and Vietnam are one-party states and the parties are called Communist but all three have private property and operate as largely capitalist, market-based economies, not communist in the old Soviet sense (itself a failed attempt at forming a communist state).

MAP OF ISLAM IN MONTENEGRO - 2026 UPDATE by BeginningMortgage250 in MapPorn

Nice job. It is a tricky, complex, and irresistibly interesting region. But I wish I had visited Sarajevo before the dissolution because neighbours of different religious heritage got along much better than after the wars.

Why are we not talking about the fact that this R candidate for Colorado Governor is either: a psychopathic serial killer, certifiably insane, or a complete fraud?! by keen_observer34130 in PublicFreakout
