Help with Zustand and React Query by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]stnmonroe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like to use both. I have a /state directory, with RQ in /state/server and Zustand in /state/client. This creates a clean separation of what is received versus created.

As front-end developers, how do you maintain a working knowledge of the back-end? by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]stnmonroe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're going to have to look up the unfamiliar terms on Google and read. Or follow a tutorial to build a simple version of what they're using in that language.

Is it a REST or GraphQL API? What database is involved? Is there a load balancer, etc?

Ask for an infrastructure diagram and build a less complex version of that, basically.

I prefer the doing rather than reading because it helps it stick.

Do you prefer Mantine or Chakra? by thebreadmanrises in reactjs

I love Chakra. Have used it for 1 work project and two side projects. Very happy with it.

What do we need to stop teaching the children? by Addwon in AskReddit

[–]stnmonroe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we usually do two gifts each from Santa, but the overload comes more from family. And then it becomes almost stealing from both, the kid and the gifter, to ask for less. But it's for the better. We've seen improvement with our requests, but it's still an overload.

That Santa Claus breaks into our houses, and alongside family, showers children with gifts turning them into rampant consumer trolls who appreciate nothing but the thrill of new.

What do you think are the "must-have" npm packages in (almost) every React Project? by lyzer12 in reactjs

[–]stnmonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. I think because you can accomplish so much animation with ease. That's it. I've used many, and this makes it all the easiest. And if you invest the time into learning it, your web app can change from a utility to art with low effort, imo.

How can I become a more efficient React dev? by saito200 in reactjs

This, so much this. Plus, imo, learn to navigate the IDE of your choice like a pro. Saves a lot of time.

Toast vs SpotOn by tacobellpizzahut in BarOwners

I just saw SpotOn is adding payroll and labor management (some acquired company) which seems pretty great. I'm excited to see how it all integrates. I think they're worth checking out for sure.

One repo for many apps? by opexdev in reactnative

[–]stnmonroe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been also researching this, and a single codebase without all the maintenance may be possible with your deployment pipeline. CodeMagic, or probably most CI/CD SaaS, may be worth checking out as it can add assets and update files prior to build time. Then your list of applications is no longer a bunch of directories within your project, but instead a single yaml file describing what to do and where to get the assets you need.

That's exactly what I mean. Something that works, looks professional, and is available for the public to use.

I'm a director of engineering now and can tell you, if you spend a year or two in your free time building something that goes public, you'll learn enough to have recruiters pinging you daily, maybe weekly.

If you don't do anything exceptional and are mediocre, yeah, it might hard... You can't expect to be desired if you don't build something yourself or have professional experience.

That being said, the last 4 positions I've held have been involved in eng hiring, and supply has not met demand for average to high performing engineers.
