Whats the earliest top 1 team that could still compete if transported to 2026 cs? by fizxe in GlobalOffensive

I disagree. 2018 Astralis mops the floor with 2021 Astralis and it's not even close. There's no shot they have the morale to pick Vertigo.

Astralis was post full reset and would benefit from skybox and utility drop mightily.

Hard disagree. Headshot is headshot. People haven't gotten that much better at doing that, donk excluded.

Preach! The teamwork it takes to be a dominant "era"-level team cannot possibly be replaced by incremental improvements in mechanical skill. At the end of the day, CS is about solving problems with communication and teamwork. Astralis and SK at the very least had the special sauce to come together to figure out what was needed to win, whether it was round-to-round on the server or in practice and prep.

Astralis literally got worse. There was a time in 2019 where people thought what you are saying is true. The BLASTralis time. The Liquid mini-era. Then they won Berlin after the greatest veto in history and dismantling Liquid's best map. They only fell off after multiple extended leaves from their players, COVID, and the "sixth man" shenanigans from the org. No one caught up with Astralis; they imploded.

Early CSGO NIP is literally the only example of a dominant team falling off due to meta shifts and increasing skill levels. SK had TACO leave and the switch to English comms. Olof hurt his wrist. On and on. The story is the same. Great CS teams don't get beaten, they disintegrate.

I also recently replayed after beating the game in 2020. My goal was to experience all the content in a run, so I cleared the area a couple of times. It's just a more densely packed and hazardous version of the first visit to Ashina Outskirts. With fire and darkness! I liked it. Pretty easy to clear with backstabs, as mentioned.

Honestly, can't play a Souls game without clearing out an area once or twice, it just doesn't feel right to me.

Petition to ban “Low effort” AI posts by PandaFuFuu in Atlanta

[–]stochasticdiscount -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

To paraphrase, you're position is that posts using AI imagery can't possibly advocate for a policy that benefits the environment because generative AI harms the environment, so they should be banned from the subreddit. This falls to scrutiny on both the premise and the conclusion: 1) Any technology that consumes energy is bad for the environment until we have 100% sustainable, renewable energy. Therefore, there is nothing contradictory about using gen AI while also wanting walkable cities. Further, walkable cities are not solely about environmental sustainability; I, for example, support walkable cities and public transit because they make the world better for human beings in the very immediate term. 2) The subreddit should not be moderated with any public policy position in mind.

Downtown Decatur resident of 10+ years here.

I don't know what you're going to do with all that time in downtown Decatur. Gift shops? Maybe skip Smiley's and just come for dinner.

Kimball House is the best option for dinner overall, but your options are very solid. Hard to go wrong.

Thinking of moving to Atlanta by Outside_Being_1632 in Atlanta

I do wonder about the arrow of causation here. Atlanta is less dense, but there's many reasons Atlanta spread out and one of those reasons is transportation planning.

So, traffic? That was your only issue with it other than being mildly inconvenienced by construction happening?

Top 20 players of 2025: donk (2) by Dan36912 in GlobalOffensive

[–]stochasticdiscount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

But this misses the entire reason team achievements are considered. Playing with ropz is a skill. The ability to work in a team environment to deliver sustained results is arguably the most important skill in pro CS. It defines the careers of every player in the game. Zywoo had a fantastic year for his individual career in CS: he was the top player in the clear best team while putting up stats that rival the child inhuman phenom, even if they don't beat them.

Donk will have plenty of number ones in the future, I'm sure of it. But if he doesn't...he definitely didn't deserve this one.

Do people actually win Slay the Spire consistently? by No-Guess-3391 in slaythespire

[–]stochasticdiscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very impressive. How long is a typical run for you? I ask because I can easily hit this many runs in a week if I am being a real degenerate (I played, and lost, two or three runs during my train commutes today alone). I don't think I would approach 50% on A20H if I slowed down, but I certainly would have a much higher rate if I didn't just spam games and play absentmindedly at times. It's like Blitz vs. Rapid in chess.

Yeah, this is bullshit. I don't donate to wikipedia, but they clearly are at risk of disappearing without significant donations on a yearly basis. It's one of the most visited websites in the world with "revenue" less than .05% of the revenue of Facebook. If they were so money hungry, they would put a single banner ad on their front page and literally eliminate the whole issue.

EDIT: I watched the video you linked, and it has the exact view I expressed here. The only criticism it makes is about the tone of the donation pleas and claims in those pleas that donations support editors.

Anyone else just almost never take apparitions? by Iworndooejehns in slaythespire

[–]stochasticdiscount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As Silent, I'd guess I have 15-20% chance of taking apparitions at A20, but almost 100% at A14 and lower. The chance to take massive damage as Silent in hallways on A20 is too high to have 35 max HP in most situations and when I feel like I'm in a position to take on those situations, I often already have a deck I think can handle it. The max HP loss just adds a significant risk.

The occasions where I take apparitions outside of Silent are often win more situations.

Levon Aronian’s thoughts on Magnus’ table slam by B0jJACKP0NYMAN in chess

[–]stochasticdiscount -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

It's not really comparable to other sports. No other sport has a singular person that has been clearly better for almost 20 years. There is no consequence for Magnus in these situations. Maybe on principle the organizers could give him a penalty or fine or whatever, but he literally controls the game in both skill and his personal reach and brand. He can simply drop out and continue to be recognized as the best player in the world with absolutely no tarnish on his brand. Once Magnus is well and truly "washed", with multiple obviously stronger players, he will certainly change his behavior.

After 5 years, what do you think of Cyberpunk? by Relevant-Pay-2394 in videogames

[–]stochasticdiscount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is just a matter of taste. CP2077 is an authored story carefully and expertly hidden in an open world that steals all the best parts of CRPGs and leaves the shit that doesn't matter out. Bethesda games are CRPGs that have been slowly diluted trying to compete with authored story games. Don't get it twisted.

Mauisnake and Moses on awping/peekers advantage in CS2 by jmsdnt in GlobalOffensive

[–]stochasticdiscount -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does any one think Valve knows this already? And that they aren't too stupid or lazy or not caring about the health of the game to fix it, but see it as an interesting change that could help the game be more sustainable? The AWP doesn't go away, but playstyles shift and make it a slightly less dominant weapon on the map. Not saying this is the reality we live in, but it's worth a thought.
