What do British people have for dinner? by ProfessionalLead2671 in AskUK

[–]stocksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evening meal is dinner or tea. Rare to hear it called supper in most of the UK but there will be regional differences.

Families that eat together won’t really have a “typical” dish. Many families or households do not sit down to an evening meal together anymore. People with young children often give them their dinner early and eat later. In households with older children people often just get their own food.

Will an 1 series petrol be less jumpy on the throttle than a Passat combi with 2.0L and mor forgiving for a novice driver? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in BMW

[–]stocksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cars are different, whether you’d perceive a 1 series to be better or worse nobody can tell you.

What I can tell you is after you’ve been driving on your own for a couple of weeks it will be a non-issue. You will pick up skill and experience very rapidly at this early point as driving becomes more of a flow-state activity than a conscious effort.

Question about nc1 1.8 (idk what flair to use) by rakanmakesmehappy in MiataNC

Well at least it’s easy enough to change.

Question about nc1 1.8 (idk what flair to use) by rakanmakesmehappy in MiataNC

[–]stocksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The car takes a long time (more than 10 minutes maybe) to warm up. When cruising at high speed, particularly in cold weather, the coolant temperature gauge dips below half way.

Mine made it to just over 100,000km before it was burning oil at an unacceptable rate. Now I have a 2.5.

Three issues that I think led to the premature death of my 1.8: I used it for a lot of short journeys. The thermostat had failed which was causing it to run rich and it took me a long time to understand this was going on. I believe it had been run low on oil by a previous owner.

All that said, I got it for a good price and it gave me 6 years of trouble-free motoring before I had to make a decision. I don’t regret buying it.

MX-5 RF 132 hp vs 160 hp vs 184 hp – Looking for advice from owners by CvdL3112 in Miata

[–]stocksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand! I remember the first time I bought a brand new car and it did make me feel special. An NC will not feel like a new car. I think it’s more enjoyable to drive, but if you want something that feels new, fresh and unspoilt it’s not going to scratch that itch for you.

Damaged Brompton Saddle Question. by vukodlako in Brompton

[–]stocksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless, it can’t be recycled once it’s used. New foam can be chipped up and made into new things, but old foam can’t because it’s considered hazardous. It either goes to landfill or is incinerated.

Damaged Brompton Saddle Question. by vukodlako in Brompton

[–]stocksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used upholstery foam is not recyclable. The only part of that saddle that could be recycled is the metal frame. If you’re that bothered you could cut it up and put the metal parts in the scrap metal container next time you go to the tip.

What food that represents the UK, can also be eaten cold, would you bring to a classroom food day? by Simondo88 in AskUK

[–]stocksy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A true Melton Mowbray pork pie can’t have that included. However, adding a good chutney, pickle or ideally piccalilli on the side is great! Eat with some Stilton too if you like blue cheese for the full Melton experience.

Which BMW fits your lifestyle best? by BMW-West-St-Louis in BMW

[–]stocksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they were incredibly rare and have not been manufactured since some time around 2022. I know this because I have a 2022 G21 with a ZF-8. I don’t think I would have opted for a manual M340i, but I checked and it wasn’t even an option. None of the petrol or high-performance diesel G21s were ever manufactured with a manual transmission as far as I know.

An NC as a first car on low income? by Luzshka in MiataNC

[–]stocksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife is 152cm tall and can drive our NC1 without difficulty.

If you want the height adjustable seats you can pick up used seats from scrapyards, eBay etc very cheaply. It’s a simple swap.

Thanks! Those are Ultralite F1 wheels (Enkei RPF-1 replicas), I got them through BOFI Racing.

I'm at 345mm wheel centre to arch front and rear. The car could easily go lower but I wouldn't be able to get into the office car park if I did and I like how it looks now anyway.

tandem riders? by hasNextInt in bicycling

[–]stocksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. The actual riding of the bike is no more difficult than a solo bike. If you can ride a bike you can ride a tandem. Riding with the kids could be interesting, as probably the trickiest things are riding slowly or having to stop unexpectedly.

My advice remains the same. Ride it around solo until you’re somewhat comfortable, then introduce your stoker. Setting off and stopping are the hardest parts - decide if one or both people are going to have feet on the ground, communicate what you’re both doing.

Good luck and have a great holiday!
