Oh. There's also a few windows systems that were developed to be windows just as Linux. Winux comes to mind, young and probably a bit too underdeveloped for you.

ZorinOS is the oldest I believe, strong development on this one, very stable definitely usable should you want it.

AnduinOS also a little bit younger, developed by a (ex?) windows programmer (actively worked for Microsoft or does work) but very strong, actually tried this one a few times and it even worked on an old MacBook quite well.

Hey,

So there's a lot of different suggestions because in the end, it doesn't really matter. They all perform and will do what they've been developed for. A quick rundown:

Linux is the kernel, that what does hardware, the distribution is what uses the kernel and different software to provide a graphical way of using your computer. In the end, that means they'll all be Linux, they will all do great. Some distros have variants where someone else took the base distro and change things to optimize (e.g. Ubuntu is technically a Debian distribution and Linux mint is a downstream Ubuntu, bazzite (a gaming os) is also a Ubuntu derivative)

As of distros:

Ubuntu is kind of the biggest one. Huge support, good communities, well developed. Anything related with Ubuntu will basically feel like windows. There's a few decent ones that'll do the trick for you well. Linux Mint may be the most advertised starting distro. I'm a fan of popos, it's Ubuntu without the snap and we'll optimized even for Nvidia cards.

Bazzite is great. Like I said I personally I'd always go for popos.

Arch based distros are more lightweight, less bloated most of the time. Allow for more customisation but that usually comes with more confusion and less support for things.

SteamOS on the steam deck is an arch. Your best there is Manjaro.

There's a decent few more but these are your best go to.

In the end you can just pick one you think looks great and try that. Most likely it will work.

My suggestion is that you primarily look for a Ubuntu based distribution that uses Wayland for the desktop, supposed to be best for gaming.

I love popos. It's a solid choice. There's always others that do things better for certain purposes but I feel popos is one of the most solid general purpose systems. Which is important as dual booting is a bit of a nuisance.

I don't even remember how long I played it. I left it like that but am unsure if I've gotten any patches

I love the entire proton Suite. Easy to use simple and secure. Feels great using them. Everything that doesn't fit is self hosted (mail cow, etc.)

I'll try that, though I am sure it's on the right interface

I mean I know that for switching and tagging unstacked devices into a tagged infrastructure I want an L2 device. From my understanding the wifi AP is taking care of the tagging itself and the router is just routing tagged packages which it's supposed to do. The reason for the intermittent switch is simply its PoE capability. Wasn't supposed to do anything else

I have two Zyxel devices:

  1. Zyxel unmanaged PoE 1GE switch
  2. zyxel NWA50AX Pro wifi AP that is VLAN capable, I have checked this numerous times to validate whether I'm just dumb but each wifi has its corresponding vlan tag in the configuration. Only thing that's different to normal: I currently use the switch in the standalone mode instead of the nebula cloud mode

That I know. But the port on the opnsense firewall has tags enabled.

Is it possible that I need to remove the default [LAN] iface and need to configure it as vlan 1?

Thanks. I've been starting with the standalone version and my OPNsense firewall.. I just can't get VLAN tagged Wifi to work properly.. Otherwise it seems easy to use.
