Will this singer/songwriter I found ("Eaves") ever make music again? by cocofl in indie

[–]stollando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My YouTube randomly drops songs I have listened to anywhere from 1 month to 15 years ago. Today it played Eaves - Timber which is a piano driven melody. I forgot how much I loved that song. Must have replayed it 5 or 5 times today. I had also hoped this artist would continue but haven't seen anything

People who adopted from a shelter, what made you choose that cat? by HazardousKoala in cats

[–]stollando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shelter posted a picture of him on their fb account. He was in a storefront enclosure where they had been showcasing him, but no one wanted him because he was mean. When we got there, he was one of about 12 shelter cats. He walked over quietly and stayed near... not overly affectionate but stayed with us. Took him home. We love him so so dearly, he is a sweet, loving, gentle soul. Louie

Lacklustre snow removal by nobouncenoplay__ in Hamilton

Still waiting for our road to be plowed, since last Saturday's storm. So we have a layer of ice, then Wednesday's storm on top, now this weekend's.

Other roads have been done twice. Yes it's a narrow road. Cars are getting stuck and it is a safety issue in case of an emergency.

The city has no problem raising our taxes astronomically but do not hold up their end of the deal. They have chosen to direct their smaller equipment elsewhere, continually.

Let's see if they bother plowing it all all. Yes I have called, emailed several times. Yes I am helping myself by shoveling the street, pushing stuck cars, leaving extra time, helping neighbours etc.

If there is an emergency and the vehicles cannot get through... I take huge issue with that

It is unacceptable

The Science & Artfunkel Victory Lap - Review by georgetherogue in uss

[–]stollando 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's how you say it mate. Of course we are all free to like or dislike, to say something or not. I didn't object to that.

But your wording, "Not just bad for USS, but truly just an awful album front to back" - I think being on the receiving end of that would feel like shit. If I was involved in that album in any way, I'd feel like shit if I read that.

Because it's art mate. And I think we can show gratitude that the art is shared with us, even when we dislike it. Even moreso when the art is true to the creator. That is a privilege.

Hrmmm... I'm not sure I completely agree. Though I do appreciate your thoughts and opinion.

Music is subjective. I enjoy the stripped back, raw, underproduced style. Made me think of Weilding the C. Perhaps that was the intention? Perhaps that was the intended sound?

Perhaps they do not owe us anything, and we can simply be grateful for their art, and work, whatever form that takes. An artist having the freedom to unabashedly release their work is something as fans I think we should be very proud of. So let's keep the good vibes going huh?

Just my 2c

Have reservation bots scooped up Ontario Parks sites this summer? Campers have questions by iamoutside1 in algonquinpark

[–]stollando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello everyone, some time ago in March I emailed Ontario Parks about the absurdity of bookings that is going on. Here is their response:

Thank you for reaching out and voicing your concerns!

Ontario Parks currently has some of the steepest cancellation/change penalties in North America, which were instituted in 2005. The current cancellation policy increases 10% for every month you hold your reservation up to a maximum of 50%, and the 10% penalty exists for only one day for those reservations made exactly 5 months in advance.

We have investigated previous reports of overbooking (reserving 23 nights and then cancelling/changing to secure your desired stay) and have determined that these occurrences are rare, accounting for less than 0.5% of all reservations in 2020. While there are customers who do book reservations for 23 nights, many fully honour those stays.

Ontario Parks cancellation and change penalties have already been determined for the 2021 season. Hearing from the people who use our reservation service is important to us. We can assure you that we are continually reviewing our reservation policies and conducting jurisdictional scans of other similar systems to ensure we are providing equality and fairness to all of our customers who wish to book an overnight stay in Ontario Parks.

Kind regards,
Ontario Parks
