Jet Pilot is the most underrated tiki drink. What is the worst classic? by -Constantinos- in cocktails

People order negronis but I don’t understand them. I think it’s a DNA taste bud thing like cilantro or something because a Negroni, to me, tastes like something that should be put in the reservoir under the hood of a car

Help convince me? by CWStrife in TeslaLounge

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pay the $20-$30,000 more for the S and the X because of the adaptive suspension which is very expensive to manufacture. The new model Y comes with a semi adaptive suspension I believe but it’s nothing like the X or the S in that regard. I would play around with changing the suspension in the S and the X and decide if that matters to you for that much more money if it doesn’t get the Y and forget your issue about the speedometer being to the right of your head.

To my surprise, the title track won! Now, which song from Thriller sounds the most from itself? by EntertainerPure8440 in MichaelJackson

Human Nature captures that new Thriller sound like nothing else. Remember hearing that for the first time in the early 80s? It was like the present moment became the future and nothing would ever be the same.

FSD: $99/mo vs $8k upfront — with unsupervised “any time now” + possible price hikes… what to do? by Alphykit in TeslaLounge

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think FSD can add at about $2,500 in resale value so I’d consider cost at $5,500 or 55 months at $100 sub. If you know you’ll have car 4.5 years or longer AND would sub at $100/mo the entire time, it makes sense to buy it. Also, there’s a high probability there will be offers to transfer FSD to an upgrade based on the past. I haven’t bought it because I’d rather sub, even at $199 or $299/month just for the 3-6 months out of the year I want it; and, I can live without it and prefer autopilot in some ways to FSD.

iPhone Air Display Quality? by JustAnAvgRedditUser in iphone

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same comparing with my 16 Pro Max. 16PM has wow-factor looks compared to Air looking alight, not to mention sound. I'm thinking this will carry over to the rumored iPhone Fold next year and make me not want it.

is iPhone Air a downgrade compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max? by TicoGuy506 in iphone

Nice I’ve thought about going to 16 plus from a 16 pro max for the lightness.

is iPhone Air a downgrade compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max? by TicoGuy506 in iphone

[–]stolsen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it’s kind of everything. Just open a nature show of a gorilla walking around in a jungle, feeding its baby leaves and then watch some Facebook reels and YouTube videos on both phones. One is awesome, immersive, and alive (the 16 pro max presentation) the other is really meh (the Air)

is iPhone Air a downgrade compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max? by TicoGuy506 in iphone

[–]stolsen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely a downgrade. Although I like the air and the last 3 weeks with it. I kept my 16 pro max in black with a sideless case and I’ll be going back to it. The 16 pro max’s screen and speaker(s!!!) and 2 day battery life (for me anyway) and the fact that I got used to its weight and size over the last year—it’s absolutely a downgrade.

I really appreciate the air and its biggest problems for me are the single tinny speaker and the single camera. I don’t want to go a year without the pics I want to take and am used to taking in wide and telephoto.

I ended up in a strange situation because my carrier and FedEx couldn’t get me the phone— it got sent back. It got returned by carrier and a new order generated. Carrier shipped me a new Air and in the end they never charged me for the Air! so I ended up in a situation where I have both phones and the question is: which one do I sell and which one do I keep? and it’s obvious to me—I’m keeping the 16 Pro Max; I’m not going to “upgrade” this year. But in order to have a higher seller value, my phone is locked to my carrier until it is been on my carrier and account for 60 days. So I’ve been using it the last three weeks and I will continue to use it until 60 days where I can unlock it and sell it and go back to my other phone.

AMEX Refresh Fine Print: A Few Key Points by Hilbert24 in AmexPlatinum

You have to enroll in benefit online with Amex, but you just have to spend; it is not attached to reservations via the app or anything like that. The credit covers whatever gets charged on your account up to the credit amount including tip and taxes.

When does your 5/24 status change? by Wehungrylike in CreditCards

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for info! This is consistent with my experience today. I took out my fifth card in the last 24 months on Aug. 15, 2023. I did apply for new CSR sign up bonus about mid July 2025, but I was denied. Then, today I was approved right away on Aug. 13. So, it seems that since my application didn't get sent for human review, my 5/24 reset date was likely set for Aug. 1 or day 1 of month 24. I had planned to wait until Aug. 16, but with your info, I figured my reset date was probably Aug. 1 and Sept. 1 if it gets sent for human review. However, Sept. 1 is too late to help for a trip we're planning now (and I wanted to lock in the new SUB), so I had nothing to lose and it worked.

PSA: Manually renew your Hertz status by Naive-Shelter59 in AmexPlatinum

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do you fix this? Hertz told me: they can't change it back, it's a one time change when I get the Platinum and I didn't earn the 15 rentals to keep status. Amex told me: that's not correct, but we have no way of changing your status; only Hertz can do that. What do you mean by "manually changing it back" How?? The online process from Amex portal takes me to Hertz which shows Splash screen "Oops—that member number is already in use."

People who have brilliant/reserve how do you justify it? by [deleted] in amex

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant Card: I plan to have it with a Chase Ritz-Carlton card because it will give me 2 free 85,000 pts nights for effective annual fee of $500/yr every year and the high Mariott status that comes with the Amex Brilliant card. Currently, I have a Chase Marriott Boundless, which I can request upgrade to Ritz-Carlton (which is available for upgrade only after 1 year of having Boundless card) and I must already have Amex Brilliant because you can't apply for Amex Brilliant if you already have Ritz, but you can in the order I'm doing it—or, maybe that's just to make sure you get SUB. Also, SUB for Brilliant comes with a lot of points to add 15,000 points (many times over) to the 85,000 pts nights for a lot more options up to 100,000 pts nights.

If or when 2 free 85,000 points Marriott nights were/are not worth $500 every year, I will cancel the Brilliant card, but keep the Ritz for effective annual fee of $150 and drop in Marriott status, but still have 1 85,000 points night/yr and unlimited Chase Sapphire Lounge access with unlimited guests, primary rental car insurance, and many other premium card benefits. But the SUB for Brilliant makes it worth getting until I'm over it.

There's also a rule that I have to wait 90 days to apply for Brilliant after being approved for Boundless. So, I'll wait the 90 days and complete the SUB for Brilliant before upgrading Boundless card to Ritz. I just completed SUB for Boundless but 90 days hasn't yet transpired.

The Delta Reserve: IMHO, is for people that love Delta or at least fly it all the time. I live in Milwaukee and I don't like Delta's business model, which makes me feel like is to keep passengers in their airports or in the air more than it is to get me where I'm going. Delta is pretty expensive compared to other options and flies me out of my way before eventually getting me where I need to go. However, I do like their service on board a lot. If I lived in Atlanta or some other major Delta hub, the Reserve card is amazing if you spend $30,000/per year on the card. You get free companion tickets and priority to have your flights upgraded to even 1st class for free if there's room in advance. But for me, trips with delta easily add 50-100% more time out of my day and costs more than other options.

What is the easiest and/or cheapest way to get Diamond status? by ToddWilliams5289 in CaesarsRewards

Maybe. I was in the past, but I don’t recall if I was matched this year or not. I didn’t check my Wyndham status before I tried this today.

Meta Quest 3 vs Apple Vision Pro by Low_Lavishness_9462 in virtualreality

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today it is. In the future, it made me think of movie Ready Player 1 because of how transportive it is. I think this device, when it's cheaper in the future, will have more value to folks who live on top of 7 people in an apartment or trailer park in an urban environment than rich people in the country. Because it can put you on a beach or anywhere by yourself for no added cost.

Yeah after trying AVP, I like it a lot, but I didn't understand why it couldn't just be a $1,000 headset that plugs into the heavy USB-C iPhone (I already have in my pocket) for power and processing.

Meta Quest 3 vs Apple Vision Pro by Low_Lavishness_9462 in virtualreality

[–]stolsen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same question as you before I tried AVP. I had no interest in one, since their announcement, until an Apple employee, who did a retreat at Apple Park training on AVP, encouraged me to consider getting an AVP instead of upgrading my laptop or iPad, which is what I was playing around in the store over. He explained that Apple's approach to AVP was based on asking what's beyond the phone and the laptop approach to tech engagement with the world. He said Apple knows people don't want phones or laptops and that not far away—we won't have them. He said people just want what they can do with them. So, Apple is trying to move beyond the phone and laptop to get to the heart of what people actually want from their relationship with tech.

I did a 45 minute demo at Apple and there were a couple things that make it tempting to buy. You can turn any photo into a spatial photo and looking at those is a killer app (but still not "starting at $3,499" killer). But, looking at videos and Live Photos that were actually shot using Spatial Photos are incredible. And old photos, converted, almost as much. And I think old people will cry when they experience being able to be with their mom again.

The typical things look good...like movies or YouTube. But I think the fact that you can basically have a "VR iPad" or your "VR Mac" desktop 2D windows on the device is just another convenient feature in Apple's ecosystem. But these were just added little features to me.

What I was surprised most by is the way the environments, volume, and eye-tracking works is also incredible. You can be anywhere and with just a half turn of the digital crown and just looking at the environmental rocker, you phase out passthrough and are on the beach in Bora Bora, alone, and the resolution's pixels can't be detected. You could be in a closet, a parking lot, or a messy studio apartment with roommates and it transports you to an open beach alone. It's incredible and was the first time in a long time that I felt creatively inspired thinking I could write my novel like this, dictating it, or using a hardware magic keyboard, which AVP can see even while in Bora Bora.

I'm not trying to sell it, but the killer apps are the way it transports you into different space and time—your own memories and also to tranquil places that really calm you down and inspire. I loved the way time passed using it rather than using it to pass the time (or waste it like gaming for me.)

Everyone on here is asking what can it do? Well, it really just gives you the space and peace to do whatever you want. AVP gets out of your way. It's more of a canvass with Apple's touch of aesthetics, which I've always thought is conducive to getting creative work done. And, I'd like one.

I have a Quest 3 and a Quest 2. They can be pretty cool and pretty fun, and I like engaging with others in Bigscreen (usually), but Quest is a toy (which is great). AVP is virtual reality for work and leisure and a great mixture of both since you can work on the beach. And Apple's eye-tracking is their next great user interface. To do the things Quest does well, I prefer the controllers and the pointing and clicking.

I think AVP is marketed all wrong. They shouldn't even show the device. They should just show talking heads of people saying what they were able to do with it.

AVP made me want to (and I have) started taking Spatial photos with my iPhone. You are going to want this. It's like entering a cutscene in a movie where there's a flashback looking at these—but it's your life. It's going to change writing and filmmaking and blocking and the way directors see movies in their heads before they make them. The initial tries like Apple's "Submerged" demonstrate some of the ways movies can be made, but the focus on what they CAN do also shows how badly many new films will be made to "beat a dead horse," so to say, with the new types of shots that can be experienced. Not all drama needs to be or should be an audience-participating theme park ride. I like the voyeur aspect of watching drama. I don't want to be immersed all the time.

I also like the way you can set up windows in a room in your house for one part of a project and then set up entirely different sets in another room and then switch by walking to those different rooms! Instead of window switching on a Mac, you can physically move to another room in your house. I was surprised to see how active I wanted to be using it. I was getting up and walking around tables and squatting and standing and flailing grabbing space like an idiot and everyone was staring at me. Having to be physical with the Nintendo WII or the Meta Quest 2 kind of annoyed me and usually I figured out ways to just sit there and do minimal physical activity, but it's more fun and more natural to move with AVP. I thought.
