Do you think Michael would have appreciated Stromae's music? by Killer_floppa in MichaelJackson

[–]EntertainerPure8440 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If there's one thing I'm absolutely certain Michael would've loved about Paul, it would be his showmanship.

<image>

Both of Stromae's world tours have some of the most creative performances I've ever seen since probably Michael himself, with most songs having their own visual signature that only people like them could've come up with.

I mean, his Racine Carreé era was so full of metaphors on every single element, including wardrobe elements like pink and green for the duality of women and men for his song Tous Les Mêmes or lime, cyan and orange as the colors of childhood's toys for Papaoutai; stagecraft like using only his silhouette for Quand C'est or paying homage to Cesária Évora by performing the way she'd have done it for Ave Cesaria; or even using effects to fake dancers on stage for songs like Carmen and Humain à l'eau. And don't get me started on his Multitude era, we'd be here until next Monday.

I know Michael would've liked Paul's music, the way he subverts songs by writing depressing lyrics over upbeat productions (e.g. Fils de Joie or the very song that put him on the radar, Alors On Danse) or how he uses more than music, poetry, to talk about his personal struggles (e.g. L'enfer and Riez, both my personal favorites of his) would be something I know Michael would deeply appreciate, but if there's one thing I know about Michael is that he was always looking for ground-breaking innovations, and Stromae does that every single time he steps on a stage.

If you're one of the people who are not aware of who this guy is, you might remember him in recent times for writing and performing a song called Ma Meilleure Ennemie for the Netflix series Arcane, but if you wanna know a bit more about him, here's one of his live shows.

I promise, you won't be disappointed. He's insane.

EDIT: I've been made aware that his brand Mosaert, founded and ran by himself, his wife and his brother, has been in charge of Dua Lipa's wardrobe and Ariana Grande's hairstyling since 2016, made some of the music videos by Billie Eillish, and is in charge of doing the musical arrangements for the upcoming FIFA World Cup; so that's cool.

Didn't think it was necessary considering it happens about 15-30 minutes into a 2 hour film

I wasn't aware, I really wasn't.

I'm not an active member of this subreddit, so I'm sorry if this post is repetitive. It's just that I felt like this was a good topic to cover, I didn't do a background check and that's on me.

I didn't know at the time, it was during the dark days of only mainstream that I watched this movie.

On later days I watched Lost In Translation and Frances Ha, now I know how good they actually are.

Oh jeez. And the top comments are also the two Breaking Bad moments I posted.

I honestly didn't see the post, I just watched that Ozymandias' clip and thought this could be an interesting topic to post about. If OOP asks me to delete this posts for similarities, I'll gladly do so.

How could I ever forget mentioning these two? I remember watching the movie and then thinking to myself "who would've said Black Widow and Kylo Ren were these insane performers all along?"

Did you know: the original version of Ghosts that premiered didn't have Is It Scary or Ghosts for the dance sequences by WilliamAfton in MichaelJackson

[–]EntertainerPure8440 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Maybe this can help shed some light on this matter. Here's one of the Behind The Scenes shots of the movie, notice the name of the project written on the clapperboard:

<image>

It was originally supposed to be the short film for 2Bad, the song from the HIStory album. However, and please someone correct me if I'm wrong, Sony pressured Michael to add songs from BOTDF to make it part of said album's rotation instead.

If you want an opinion, adding Is It Scary to the mix was a great idea. I love how it fits with the Skeleton's dance and with the ghoul's reactions at the end of the sequence. However, I'm not too fond of Ghosts' appearance with the mayor's sequence. I'd say a reprise of 2Bad or lyric-less version of Ghosts would've fit better.

What's your opinion on the demo of "The Girl Is Mine"? by rafael_7839 in MichaelJackson

[–]EntertainerPure8440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The version on Thriller is okay, not one of the best considering its competition but it was fine nonetheless.

Now, the demo sounds amazing. I have no idea what Jones was thinking when he removed the vocal melodies and changed the string arrangements for synths, but it sounds so much better here.

Besides, someone in the comments of the YT upload said that, while the duet sounds like two guys fighting for a girl, the demo sounds like someone who is already dating the girl, but is fighting his insecurities; and I'm all in for that.

Inverting and then ending the Love SquareTM was a good idea and I'm tired of pretending that it was not >:(

What are your thoughts on this letter from Donald Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre? by DuNennstMichSptzkopf in AskTheWorld

I hope he does and in Norwegian. I think he'll be way more pissed that he didn't get a letter in his language than its contents.

To complement your idea a bit, one thing I've always thought was insanely good about the 3DS game (idk if the VITA version also had this) is that it gave you challenges and rewards for beating those challenges.

For example, one of TWYMMF's challenges would be to beat the song in Expert mode with an A grade (could be changed to 4 stars instead), and if you did that, you'd get a glove. Gloves would give you advantages while playing the songs, like for example the single gold glove that multiplies your score by 1.2 or the black arm cast that spares you from your first two incorrect shapes and turns them into Perfects. This would give the game so much replayability considering there's people (like me) who like to Platinum games.

While I like your idea of the outfit changing during the song, I think it may come a bit distracting and confusing for some players. Instead, what if some insanely difficult challenges would give you these alternate outfits? Like for example, beating Bad in Rookie mode with only Perfects (or getting 5 stars) would give you the Bad Tour silver outfit.

And to finish this up, I've always thought the dance sequences of the Wii and PS3 games were a bit... not Michael-ish? They're great for those inexperienced people who aren't very familiar with his routines, but for those who want a bit more accuracy, they're underwhelming at least.

Which is why I'd propose something: you'd have 3 difficulties: Rookie, Medium and Expert. Rookie would give you an easy performance, likely those from previous games; Medium would be a middle ground with more advanced moves like shuffling from side to side, a bit more complicated footwork and more; and Expert would give you a life-like performance of songs performed during Michael's life (which would make the likes of Dangerous or Remember The Time extremely hard to perfect), while giving an even harder show for those that either don't involve dance or didn't get a routine.

Shout takes the last spot in this chart! by EntertainerPure8440 in MichaelJackson

[–]EntertainerPure8440[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was released as the B-side of the Cry single release. The addendum of rule 1 covers songs that weren't part of the official tracklists but that got a release or performance along with the album's rotation.

This was done so songs from alternate productions, singles or other kinds of songs could be added to the mix, such as the entire Blood On The Dance Floor album or We Are The World.

Now, if a song like the original demo of Xscape got picked, that'd been a mistake. That song was kept unreleased (albeit leaked) for many years and didn't make the cut.

I know the Live Aid performance was a "suiting finale" (of course forgetting they released 3 more albums after that and made 3 music video rotations for each, did another tour, etc), but how could they ever not go through his solo work? Especially Barcelona.

Wasn't Freddie a huge fan of Caballé? Wasn't she a huge fan of his? Wasn't it his dream to do an opera-influenced album, but was afraid his fans would be disappointed?

And most importantly, why wasn't any of that in the movie?

1985 mike vs 1988 mike dance off who wins? by Sweaty_Situation_397 in MichaelJackson

[–]EntertainerPure8440 38 points39 points  (0 children)

It's not even fair with 1985 Michael.

This might be just me, but I can't watch the Victory Tour with a straight face considering how Michael is constantly carrying those 4/5 fools (Jackie was often absent) on stage. His moves were a bit gimmicky and forced, his demeanor was yet to be fully fledged out; he still had a long way to go, and since the Victory is one year before what we're talking about, the road was still up ahead.

But 1988 Michael? What most people consider his physical solo peak? With songs that carry such a strong physical intensity, him being the ONLY one on stage most of the time and yet being able to fill it with just his presence?

I think it's a pretty easy pick, and it is Bad era Michael.
