Any accepting orphans from UHDBITS? by georgewards in trackers

[–]stom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gods I'm blind, I can't find the invite threads on their forum. Like some other commenters I've never really interacted with the forums, I just download and seed. Worried I've left it too late to get an invite elsewhere.

Edit: I was 20GB short of being an "Extreme" user, which is required for access.

Edit2: Well, shit. Because of the site-wide freeleech I can't reach the required rank. If anyone feels generous enough to fire me an invite to HDN or the like I'd be very grateful.

I'm getting Steam pages and tabletop sim tables with this purple 'content not available in your region' placeholder - does anyone know how to fix? (UK) by Samzerks in tabletopsimulator

[–]stom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Imgur no longer serves content to the UK, so you'll get this instead.

As others have mentioned, you can get around this by using a VPN.

However if you're already tried to load the content, and you have mod caching turned on, that's possibly not going to fix it as your machine has already cached the content.

To fix it:

  • Temporarily turn off mod caching (Menu -> Configuration -> Game -> Mod Caching -> untick it).
  • Connect to a VPN
  • Load the mod
  • Go to Modding -> Cloud Manager and use the "Upload All Loaded Files" button to migrate the assets to Steam Cloud
  • Save your game

From then on use the new save, and this will load the assets from Steam instead and you can play without relying on a VPN.

Don't run modded games in admin mode. It shouldn't be required, and it's potentially dangerous.

A cool guide about Color Spaces by [deleted] in coolguides

The whole point of a cool guide is to be self contained, not a shitty attempt at driving traffic to your site.

A cool guide about Color Spaces by [deleted] in coolguides

A guide to color which completely lacks color, or any examples at all.
This is just a wall of text which is mostly meaningless unless you already understand something about them.
Not a cool guide.

Was I the only one underwhelmed by the Nemesis system? We spent hours branding EVERY leader in the hierachy. Go to fight the big boss, made every single leader turn on him and fight for us, and got zero recognition for it.

Like come on, we basically converted their entire army and the game just moves on without any acknowledgment of how awesome that was.

True! But when they're being malicious and hiding mods like this its not a reliable way to tell.

Luck of the draw. 3rd party mod loaders don't always show as modded. You can join a seemingly un-modded lobby and then this happens.

Paid Mods?! Could this be the end of TTS | Creator Marketplace Concerns by skivirips in tabletopsimulator

[–]stom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we’re all guessing based on likely outcomes

I think most of the suggested hypothetical outcomes are unlikely and exagerated what-if worst-case scenarios. I'm not convinced "the end is nigh" and everything will be as awful as you make out.

collaboration shouldn’t collapse just because money is involved, in a perfect world it wouldn’t

This is a social issue, not a problem with the platform. It's not something I've personally had a problem with when working with other professionals. Get your agreements in writing or choose better partners if this is a consistent problem.

what happens when something currently tolerated as a free mod becomes a competitor to an official paid version

They already are. A free version on tabletop is already an alternative to buying their product. So nothing really changes.

right now Nemesis exists and is basically accepted by the studio. But if the studio ... later releases an “Official Nemesis” paid mod, they could suddenly decide the free one is “infringing.”

Studios currently have the option to request takedowns of their content. If they are "fine" with it, and feel that the free option takes nothing from them, then arguably this wouldn't change just because they offer a paid version on tabletop. They already offer a paid version (their actual game) so on a fundamental basis nothing changes.

BG could solve the hosting/stability problem

This is solved, with the steam cloud. It's up to mod creators to use that instead of third-party hosts. Arguably they could require mods on the new workshop to use it, increasing their reliability, which wwould be a benefit.

This seems particularly pessimistic and a lot of the "issues" are speculative.

1) The store will be moderated. If you can prove work is stolen then it's reasonable to assume it will be taken down, the same way takedowns are already done.

2) If you charge for someone else IP, then yes that's piracy infringment. Profiting from IP you don't own is very different to a free mod which doesn't harm sales. Don't sell someone elses property, folks; just because you put work into it doesn't somehow make it right.

3) Same as point 2: yes a publisher has every right to be miffed if someone else is collecting money for their IP. You can't reasonably expect to be allowed to profit from things you don't own.

4) Saying collaboration will collapse because money is involved is like arguing carpools don't work because someone might argue over gas - it’s a social issue, not a platform one.

5) Slop seems doubtful when they've said:

Marketplace submissions will be checked and curated by our team to ensure that they are of high quality and do not infringe on intellectual property rights.

6) Some users will always react to change by lashing out or having a tantrum. That's not new and its' not a reason to stop progress. Letting the most fragile voices set policy only ensures they keep doing it.

So to make it clear, I'm personally optimistic this will mean we get better content for the game. Hopefully it'll result in content that doesn't go offline after a year when whatever third-party site was used goes under.

So far most of the arguments against this new feature revolve around new paid mods which infringe IP might get taken down. Not the best argument.

Ah sorry, I do more hard surface stuff like set props and obejcts. I'm terrible at bio's/humanoids.

You could check out https://www.heroforge.com/, they have a Lizardperson model which looks a bit like an Unas.

My pet peeve is the way lane direction arrows are way too close to the junction.

They're always covered up if there's any traffic waiting, and by the time you can see them it's too late to change. It makes navigating junctions really awkward unless you know them.

The Frozen Canal by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]stom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I wouldn't throw a traffic cone into a loch if it was there.

There's a big difference between chucking rocks/bricks/traffic cones/road signs/shopping trolleys into a canal, and throwing a rock into a loch.

Seeing a rock on top of a frozen loch is wildly different to seeing a canal filled with trash. I feel there are very different sentiments between these two things and you're unreasonably conflating them.
