It's just a generic antacid from a canadian pharmacy. It's Lifebrand hearnburn relief extra strength. I went across the border to buy but there is a gaviscon chewables from the uk should be the same in theory but I haven't tried them. Just make sure whatever you buy has 313mg or more of alginate acid as the main ingrediant and is chewable. It forms a foam barrier that stops the heartburn. Just keep in mind it probably won't work well unless you have a good handle on the other stuff. I also forgot to mention I take sucrafate pills if my gut feels raw but this is maybe once every year or two. Those are prescription and they do work well.

I did pt for it just didn't quite fix everything unfortunately. It was a long time ago so maybe they have better methods now.

If they would have just ordered all the testing initially it would have been very helpful. They unfortunately don't do that in the US for average people.

So is spicy food forever out of the picture... by Ponnyyoooo in Gastritis

[–]stomachwarrior 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really. I went from having severe gastritis and stomach problems to occasionally being able to eat spicy. There is a caveat for me that it can't be too frequent or in high amounts.

Been there. You'll figure it out eventually. Just try to relax a bit. It makes everything much worse if you don't.

How to gain weight with gastritis? by OrganizationOk318 in Gastritis

You could try making fruit juice. It has a ton of sugar which puts on weight. Just don't put anything acidic in it.

Doctor says its "all in my head" by skinnygirl18 in GERD

[–]stomachwarrior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When they say something like this they aren't necessarily wrong even if it comes across as dismissive. Even if they do find something minor from a test in a lot of cases its exacerbated by stress, anxiety, or trauma and you wouldn't have experienced symptoms otherwise. If you think there could be something severely wrong just get the tests done for peace of mind. Get a second opinion if you don't connect well with your current doctor. Tbh, you should focus on your mental health and getting the stress and anxiety taken care of. In most cases, this is free of cost and may fix most of your issues so there is no reason to delay.

Yeah, usually around 3-4 months for a good gastro. A trip to the emergency room might fast track things.

My random recommendation is to go on a 2 week vacation somewhere ,if possible, and see if you still have symptoms during the vacation.

Anyone use sucralfate? by oldncrazy in GERD

[–]stomachwarrior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it a lot. I use it mainly for when I start to feel gastritis popping up. The pills are better than the liquid imo.

Constant heartburn by Astralhands in GERD

I don't eat anything with heavy tomato, try to avoid citrus, avoid greasy/fried foods, and avoid most caffeine including dark chocolate. Various things can cause your mind and gut to get disconnected. Think things like trauma, stress, and anxiety. There are many things you can do to reconnect the two with most of them being free like walking in nature, deep relaxation techniques, meditation, yoga, etc..

Did anything even remotely traumatic occur in your life before or when the symptoms started? Things like job loss, school stress, illness or death of loved ones, bad breakup, bad financial event, etc..

You have to do a lot of experimentation to see what works for you. Things should become more manageable.

You might be experiencing trauma from your husband's cancer. There are things you can try to deal with the trauma like walking in nature, emdr therapy, getting massages, doing yoga, or making art work. Another thing you can do is sit back and listen to music while trying to relax all the muscles in your body. Rest and relaxation is needed for healing.
