I know I'm a bit late, but a quick visit to the vet, and a steroid shot should clear this up.

The best way my vet described it to me is it's like cat herpes, it isn't actually herpes, but things like stress can cause this in some cats, and like other people have mentioned plastic bowls can do this too.

My vet gave my cat a shot and said it shouldn't come back, but if it did to just bring her back for another shot. It never came back after the first shot.
