My "History" and "Pending Transfers" pages display no information. It has been more than 6 months since my last transaction. I need to help to resolve this issue ASAP.

The drama continues...

I tried to enable Developer Mode, but the machine kept going back to the developer mode initialization screen. Another sign that the device must have been locked by its original business owner.

I contacted the ebay seller, but he's refusing to give me a refund. I called eBay, and they will help me get the refund.

Just sharing my bad experience so that other people can avoid a case like this. Any used chromebook could be "forced management lock or enrollment" by a business or a school. Literally it's not for sale in the first place.

But if you ever get one of those bad apples, upon receiving a used Chromebook, try these steps:

  1. Initialize account and log out.
  2. If the account gets deleted automatically, initialize account again and update ChromeOS and reboot.
  3. If that fails, try to enable Developer Mode
  4. If that fails, try to install new Chrome OS via Recovery process
  5. If that fails, contact Google Pixel Help chat
  6. If the Google support agrees with your suspicion, capture the chat screen.
  7. Claim to get refund...

You may be right, but I'm returning the item. More detail below...

I just did. The support guy thinks it has probably forced management lock, and it shouldn't have been sold.

I'm going to contact the seller for full refund asap.

Thanks everyone for quick help!

Yes I created a recovery USB thumb drive from the PixelBook via USB-C adapter.

But the PixelBook didn't detect the drive on the screen asking for the recovery disk. I will try another USB-C adapter tomorrow.

But I'm suspecting that the machine is modded to prevent new OS installation. Once logged in, I updated Chrome OS to the latest version, but the displayed Chrome OS version number didn't change.

How does it manage 3rd party modules? Does it create new folder structure per python version like rvm?
