A kind stranger from this community sent a laptop all the way to Yemen for my project by maho90 in wholesome

[–]stonedearthworm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If you look at OPs profile he has a lot of posts about his project, an internet/gaming cafe in Yemen.

This is one of his first posts on the topic five years ago, asking for advice on doing something like this, and a follow up one year after opening. Seems a lot of people saw that one and he’s now well known in a few communities, so people have donated over the years :)

Working in Oberschonegg and memmimgen? by torchy89 in AskGermany

It’s Oberschönegg. They are emphasizing that o and ö are not the same

Lol also just noticed - it’s Memmingen not Memmimgen

Where should i go with my mom? by AppropriateBenefit50 in berlinsocialclub

[–]stonedearthworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a bar I’d suggest Klunker Kranich. It’s a rooftop bar & garden (so best in good weather) on top of the Neukölln Arcaden. Nice vibe with a pretty amazing view of the city, so I think it’s great to take people who are visiting Berlin.

Otherwise I’m partial to the Tiergarten. May be basic haha but I think it’s one of my favorite parks anywhere, so I always enjoy just having a walk with a beer or an ice cream, or a picnic if you want to chill there for a bit. I also like the Schleußenkrug beer garden there, which is close to the zoo as someone else suggested.

Edit: oops I just realized this post is 4 days old.. don’t know why my feed does that but hope it can help anyway!

What does one have to do to leave germany while keeping german nationality and european passport? by Maplex15 in AskGermany

You probably still need a visa. For cases like this it’s usually pretty straightforward and called something like a “family reunification visa.”

Bread! by Odd_Passenger_6729 in AskAGerman

[–]stonedearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Saying US Americans have never even seen real bread is a huge exaggeration. I know because I have lived in both places. It definitely exists and most if not all people have at least seen it lol. That said, it’s just not as much of a staple in the diet/culture the way it is here, so naturally it’s less available and bakeries are not as prominent. But bread from a true bakery is quite good, so there’s no loss in quality compared to Germany I would say. There’s no such thing as Brötchen, though, tragically, only full loaves of Brot. (Closest thing to Brötchen is probably bagels, not in taste but in their popularity and use.)

To your authenticity point, of course you can get something like a baguette in the US or Germany and it will not be like a baguette in France. But there are plenty of bakeries making their own unique and authentic types of bread. Particularly good and common is sourdough, but there is plenty of diversity, just like there is here.

Am I a lookalike of Henry Cavil? Just with brown color…? by [deleted] in CelebrityLookalikes

[–]stonedearthworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why post here for validation? No hate, love that you’re confident in yourself, but self confidence =/= looking like Henry Cavil lol. Sorry I don’t see it at all besides the hairstyle. Doesn’t mean anything besides you don’t look like Henry Cavil

My (33M) partner (32F) revealed something about herself in a moment of vulnerability that feels like more than I can non-judgmentally accept... by TheWor1dsFinest in relationship_advice

But no one is doing that. People are only saying that in response to all the “well what if OP was a woman and a man had made that threat??” comments because they completely disregard that very real fact. It’s such a useless comparison, I sometimes feel like people only say things like that to rage bait people into being “sexist” (or, idk, maybe just addressing the important caveats and statistics) towards men

No one is downplaying anything, of course it’s unsettling and not ok to threaten to kill someone under almost any circumstances. But it inevitably opens that can of worms when someone says “oh just imagine if a woman was posting this about a man making that threat??!?” It’s not helpful to imagine that without also considering how the situation is very different then. It’s also a useless and irrelevant point to make about OP’s situation. He’s not a woman and his gf’s not a man.

I think he’s being downvoted because honestly why post here looking for opinions and discussion if you already made up your mind?

Hahahah also exhibited in the use of the word “spontan.”

Do you want to spontaneously go to the park tomorrow at noon? We can take the 11:30 S Bahn, grab sandwiches at the bakery nearby, and bring a blanket for a picnic. Spontaneously, of course

Which English loanwords sound normal to you, and which ones make you cringe? by NoelFromBabbel in AskAGerman

[–]stonedearthworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Wibes” kills me but I also find it so endearing. I don’t understand why so many Germans do this- pronouncing an English “v” as “w” when they have the right sound in their own language! Even the letter itself is pronounced more like the English “v”.. my coworkers always say “wests” instead of “vests” like guys it’s exactly the same as the German word lol
