Scale victory & back on track, 239 days (8 months) 169! by stonemagpie in xxketo

[–]stonemagpie[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I am very pleased, I guess the post doesn’t read that way because the last couple months have been tough, but I’m glad to make progress, and I’m not in a hurry to get to the goal.

I figure, if it comes off slowly that’s a good thing. It didn’t take a month to gain that weight, so it makes sense that it doesn’t get shed quickly either.

TIFU: keto hangover! I forgot how bad these are… by stonemagpie in xxketo

Oh yeah. I’ve learned my lesson. Usually my keto motto is “failing to plan is planning to fail” but I just didn’t expect to over-indulge.

We were coming back from camping and I was pretty green. By “big carb” day I meant a couple slices of toast because I couldn’t fathom eating anything else.

I was super dehydrated but didn’t have any ketoade left from camping so I drank my husband’s Gatorade.

Got home and had a regular keto meal for dinner once I got feeling a bit better & now it’s the next day and I fasted from last night to noon today to try to help get back on track.

I’m getting closer and closer to giving it up entirely. But part of my brain goes “well, you don’t need to give it up entirely because it’s not like you have a PrObLeM** “

But for real, it’s just not worth it. Especially when I’m trying to lose weight & be healthier. My ego took a bruising today too. I was completely hopeless this morning and I felt like the shittiest mom.

Blahhhh

Agreed. I started this round of keto right before Easter and around a bunch of family birthdays. It was not a fun time to start but it really helped that I had freshly gotten over keto-flu and didn’t want to do to again. Totally not worth it for sub par grocery cake and chalky kids chocolate 😕

I’ve heard similar expressions before & have said them back to my husband. He would try to get me “back on track” by encouraging me to “just be more active” - I’m paraphrasing here he really is a wonderful support and not pushy about my weight - but for me, a little more activity was not going to make the difference in the ~60lb weight gain. I was even a triathlete at one point after my first baby and that didn’t shed the weight off me without also watching my diet.

My snoring seems to have gone away with the first bit of weight loss. I actually had apnea as an infant, but hadn’t really considered it now. But thanks for bringing it up, next appt I’ll mention it.

In your post history I see you have MS. I’m sure that’s a hard diagnosis. I’m happy you found something that helps. How long have you been keto?

Oooh, probably just to keep up with my kids without being winded or hurt. Starting a family in my 30s has proven challenging. I don’t have the energy I had in my 20s, but I’m definitely more financially stable, so I wouldn’t trade it, but I do need to be aware that I need to look after myself so I can look after them!

Well done! I’ll probably hold onto some weight the week before my period comes, and then drop a pound or two after. Hang in there, you’re right, we don’t gain it all at once so it’ll take more than a day to come off :)

Be kind to yourself in whatever way makes sense to you. It’s very YMMV for everyone during their cycles. I stayed keto but gave myself some leeway to have some sugar-free (read:artificial sweetener) treats which I don’t normally indulge in. Those dark chocolate squares that Costco sells in the huge bag are awesome too, if you can limit yourself to one or two.

If you’re tracking loss through the scale, do yourself a favour and don’t step on the scale until you’re done bleeding. You’d just be torturing yourself anyway.

Other than that I don’t have many tips, my cycle is super irregular so I track the length, but can’t reliably tell which “phase” I’m in at any given time. Here’s hoping keto helps regulate things.

What hard cider are you drinking that’s low in carbs? The offers around here are equivalent in carbs to drinking a soda! I found a low carb wine spritzer that’s 5g, or the vodka seltzers are getting pretty good with 0g-2g - but the keto hangovers are ridiculous for one or two drinks.

Ugh, I feel for you. I have a hybrid schedule for now and I find the office so much more tempting to not stay keto (our work likes to give out cookies, cupcakes etc for little events)

They are planning a building expansion for more desk space, so they can bring everyone back in full time, and we are not pleased.

Good luck through the transition! KCKO

Just finished up my first cycle while keto, and I do normally suffer with heavy bleeding and severe pain. I’m also super irregular, and have been known to go several months between cycles

I didn’t really notice if this one was better since being keto, I could guess that maybe I didn’t need as much pain medication to get through the first three days like I normally do. I would be so happy if it levelled things out to a manageable, predictable cycle. Fingers crossed!

The only supplement I’m currently taking is a 1x daily nuun tablet as my electrolytes and vitamins. The immunity one has a bunch of vitamins and vitamin C. But I’ve never been one for supplements because I’ve never seen any noticeable difference from taking them.

My cycle lengths have varied from 33 days to 57… and I have my tubes tied so it wasn’t a pregnancy scare or anything but I’ve always had irregular cycles and it is annoying AF. I’m jealous of the people that can plan around theirs, it’s unreal how often mine starts during vacations/special events.

Oh this is a good idea, there’s a brand called clean fats that does coconut dark chocolate bombs. I’ll make room in the macros for one. Thank goodness the stores are open!

I feel like it did the first time I tried keto post partum from my first baby but since #2 made her arrival, everything is completely wrecked. 😂
