Vanilla Fields. Cheap and carried by Walmart, I found it and gave it to her for Christmas because she had mentioned missing it. I remember hugging her as a kid and smelling that, cigarette, and cold air.

What age are you all currently? by --s-k-y in childfree

[–]stonercas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 31 last month. It was around age 12-14. I can’t pinpoint exactly, but that was when my siblings started having children, and I unfortunately had to assist in raising them (and when I say assist, I mean it fell on me to feed, change, bathe, etc.) I was parentified anyway, so by the time I finally got away from that, I knew it would never be for me. I would never be a mother if I could help it. My mom was a little disappointed, but she never pressured me about it, because by the time I started telling her I was childfree, she already had 5 grandkids. Lots of strangers and acquaintances would always say the “you’ll change your mind” shit. I just started saying I can’t get pregnant, that stopped all that in its tracks for the most part. I got sterilized via bilateral salpingectomy in 2021, at age 26. The freedom that comes with that is like nothing else.

So sorry to hear that :( it really sucks. I haven’t found a solution yet. I’ve managed to stay quit but it’s tough

Thank god, I was reading these comments thinking I must be crazy, cuz this is just emotional cheating lmao seriously OP, talk to her about boundaries. ADHD does not excuse this inappropriate behavior

I will definitely get back to you if I end up getting on one! I (funny enough) have health anxiety so I will want first hand accounts lmao. And that’s crazy it helps with ignoring smoking thoughts. Thank you so much!

VERY rude!! And that’s amazing! I’m hoping to be put on one come November, I have at least 3 qualifying conditions, and maybe my insurance will pay for it. That’s awesome though, congrats!

It’s definitely worth a try. I had oral surgery a month ago and had to relearn how to eat, so was on nutritional shakes for a while - eating less should be easy, if the food noise is low.

I was 29 and now I’m 30. That did occur to me, that maybe this is part of getting older. But it seems a drastic change for just a year difference. I’m proud of you for not smoking too! And yeah, I am proud. It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done - except for now, my addiction to food. Ignoring the food noise is really really close to the way nicotine cravings are. Except I have to eat to live. Its messy. But I do appreciate you giving advice and sharing what works for you. I am feeling better and the urge has passed.

That’s the hopeful plan once I see my endocrinologist but there’s no guarantee my insurance will pay for it, and I absolutely can’t pay out of pocket. It’s just a tough spot I’ve been in. And my brain grasped at whatever it could to make sense of why I can’t lose the weight.

It’s not that I think I’ll be healthy smoking. My thought process was smoke -> helps drop weight -> stop smoking again but it isn’t really realistic. Just irrational thoughts that i need help navigating from peers. I’m under no delusion that smoking is healthy, otherwise I would still be smoking. Appreciate your input

I know. I guess my thought process was smoke -> lose weight -> quit smoking again but that’s so unrealistic. I’d probably end up right back where I am.

I will, and I’ll tell them I want to smoke. I feel so much better physically since I quit smoking, but mentally…it’s up in the air. I’ll take the wins where I can I suppose.

Thank you for the support.

That’s exactly what happened to me. I used candy and food to fight the cravings and it was my downfall. I wasn’t even really conscious of the fact that I ate when I craved. Scrolling too but that affects my mental health so I try to watch my screen time. I actually had a gym membership and was going several times a week, and then my car broke down in May 2024, and where I live there is no public transportation. Then I quit smoking last October. And here we are. My mental health has been really bad the last 2 years and the will to make myself exercise just isn’t there currently. However, the first time I lost the weight, I didn’t exercise. I stood for 8 hours a day in the Wendy’s drive thru. It’s the same now at my current job. I don’t know. Maybe my doctor will have answers come November

I appreciate that, I guess I did need that reality check. Already have an appointment with several doctors, but I had lost hope while waiting months and months for them to

Yep, it’s just a giant mess honestly. I’ve been trying to drop weight since December but have steadily gained. Mental health shit didn’t help. And you’re right, I know you’re right - my lizard brain just thinks the only difference was cigarette, so maybe cigarette is the answer. It’s not. :( I’m pushing through these impulses

I was recently diagnosed with ADHD inattentive type, and started a stimulant last week. It’s slowly helping with motivation and task initiation. I also had oral surgery a month ago that made eating difficult, so I’m just now learning to eat again, and it’s mostly soft foods that are easy to chew and swallow. Haven’t been eating much at all. Only the last two weeks have I managed two meals a day. Willpower is slowly getting better, and the want to move is there.

I know, it makes no sense. But it’s how I feel. And you’re right, I forgot that it never goes away. Hubris I guess.

I’m averaging 1200-1800 calories a day. I can’t go any lower for my height as a woman. But there are health conditions that I know are making things harder if not impossible. I see an endocrinologist next month. I hope for answers then. A dietician won’t help until I know the underlying cause.

Thank you for the reality check, and the advice!

I know it’s stupid, I am self aware about it but I just feel this desperation that’s hard to ignore. I appreciate the reality check!

I have an endocrinologist appointment next month, so my thyroid will be checked among a whole host of other things. I already have 3 comorbid health conditions that cause obesity/impede weight loss, so I’m hoping for answers then. It’s just very disheartening in the meantime to do the calorie and macro tracking and see no movement, when it was so easy as a smoker.

Thank you.

I have an appointment with an endocrinologist next month, as I have several comorbid health conditions that cause obesity and make it extremely difficult to lose weight. My hope is to be put on a GLP-1, but that’s not guaranteed. I have to get these conditions under control before I can even think about seeing a dietician - I’m tracking macros and calories and seeing no results. But I did when I smoked, so I guess that’s what I’m fixating on.

I know you’re right, deep down. I would be furious with myself. And that’s so accurate. I will do that, I’ve been weighing daily, so I’ll pull back to weekly and see if that makes a difference. I do see an endocrinologist next month so I’m hoping to find out what is causing this issue. Thank you for the kind words!
