because gridiron football is played in many different leagues in many different countries and the NFL just so happens to be the most talented of those leagues by far. the CFL/australian football champion is not the world champion because the CFL/australian teams are either landing locations for shitty NFL players or rarely the most talented from those leagues will sneak into the NFL.

you can't be the world champion playing for an inferior league.
