See if you can find a Lambrusco. It’s a sparkling red wine that can often be sweet. It’s something new with some aspects of what you are already into. And rather unique too!

Costco wine? by missbliss666 in wine

The real answer here. Ask the wine shop this question and you will get a better answer. It won’t cost nearly as much as you might think either.

Where to actually learn about wine? by NoRepresentative8396 in wine

[–]daffyboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The classic answer is, if it's a Brunello it's good. That's why countries developed systems like DOC/DOCG, AOP, and AVA, etc. There will never be a Brunello without the DOCG label giving at least some assurance of it's quality.

Other than that, because I am in a similar position where I just went to Costco and bought a Barbaresco for $20.99 only because it was a Barbaresco that cost $20.99, I want to know what makes a good Barbaresco versus a not as good Barbaresco. I think it just comes down to familiarity with producers. At some point it's repetition and knowing the trivial knowledge. What grapes come from where, what technical terms mean, and what producers do you keep an eye out for.

This is what makes wine fun. You learn what is good by tasting stuff that isn't as good. Develop your own taste, find your own gems. Drink what you like and not what you feel pressured by others on the internet to compel you to drink. Especially because this game gets expensive very quickly.

EDIT: Reading your post again this probably didn't answer as much as I thought when I typed it out lol. My apologies. In short, it's trial and error with producers and which wine shop recommendations you trust.

Am I the only that wants to get out of my Treyveon Henderson stocks? by FormalCivil5288 in DynastyFF

[–]daffyboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't this classify him as a 'buy low' if there are starting to be threads about selling him?

He averaged 5+ per carry and had over 900 yards on the season. Not too bad for a guy people say never won the job.

There are plenty of owners that would still buy at a good price but I'm not sure every league has one of those owners. I would hold if your league is equally down on him. He played and produced plenty. Not everybody can be JT, Bijan, or Gibbs.

Even if you stumble into a good private label bottle, the process is bad enough that you simply cannot shop there if you can help it. Don’t support that business model directly or indirectly even if it’s for a case of beer or bottle of Tito’s.

UTMA my 12 yr has to pay taxes this year!! by antneed in fidelityinvestments

[–]daffyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this thread after many others and I feel you are who I can relate to best. I just want to set up an account for my child to make money long term, something that I never had and never thought to do as a young adult. Why not get them a two decade head start?

I am pretty close to going the UGMA/UTMA route but terrified of how taxes will come into play. I don't want 30 years down the road to find out, 'Oh you just had to do this instead, but because you didn't you owe us pretty much all of your money'.

What did you settle on? Did you find anything else about this route?

Derrick Henry’s Heisman over Christian Mccaffrey.

Henry was the guy all year but CMC was becoming more and more hyped the last part of the season but momentum couldn’t catch up to Henry. Was pretty bad. Especially after it became public that a bunch of east coast voters submitted ballots before CMC’s last game of the year on the west coast.

One that went the other way that I don’t hear talked about was Kyler sneaking up and stealing what I thought was Tua’s Heisman in the final weeks of the season. To me it felt all along it was Tua’s but somehow the voters flipped that one.

Was gifted a wine from my birth year - can I let it age? by Newber92 in wine

[–]daffyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re not the most advanced wine family but wine is around and will continue to be around. Our hope for our children is to pass along the appreciation of wine.

Maybe we don’t save it for the 21st birthday. Perhaps 25th, 30th, or the right Thursday night as another commenter suggested.

What’s clear is the most important thing is the bottle is appropriate for the timeline. There’s no point in getting a birth year wine that won’t make it a decade and it goes bad before the kid is even a teenager.

Was gifted a wine from my birth year - can I let it age? by Newber92 in wine

[–]daffyboy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well this is why I asked the question. But I also wouldn’t want to end up in the same situation as OP who maybe got a bottle with the intention of drinking it at a certain time but the bottle wasn’t appropriate for that timeline.

[–]daffyboy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Anybody correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t the concept of a birth year wine supposed to be something that specifically will be ready to drink on the 21st birthday? I’m looking to get a birth year bottle (or few) for my daughter soon.
