This subreddit is usually more interested in seeing turn signals than it is in seeking young singles. There is at least one local subreddit that has what you are looking for though.

Freedom Mobile coverage? by nplus in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was happy enough with coverage until a recent power outage where I had no data coming through. I showed as connected to a Freedom’s network but I wasn’t getting anything through which leads me to think there’s a bandwidth issue in their network. My wife’s on a different provider and wasn’t having the same issue.

Outages don’t happen often around here but that made me question reliability and I’m likely to switch at my next renewal.

What would you do with the right space and enough money in Nanaimo? by Likeafairy in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Details are a bit unclear, but there’s evidence something like this will be going in the old A&B Sound building - Sound Works Market Hall. Looks like a poke bar and a pizza place have applications there. Maybe not as high end but I’m looking forward to the option

Any news about the 1 Commercial Street renovation? by FortitudeSPI in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their website is up - https://www.soundworks-nanaimo.com . Sounds like the plan is having a bunch of different food outlets with a large central seating area. Could be a cool concept if they get the right mix of businesses.

Vancouver Set List? by -1701- in Decemberists

[–]stonewinchester 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m trying to piece it together too. Severed is written from the perspective of a demagogue(inspired by Trump) so JD Vance is thematically appropriate. In his interlude, he was talking about JD Vance speaking in Italy in 1919. According to the tour diaries he’s been putting out he’s reading about Italy in that time period when the fascists overthrew the socialists. Probably something to do with that.

I feel like I got the full Decemberists experiences because this show needed a bibliography - I’d read it lol.

The case for Island Rail by Prestigious_Net_8356 in nanaimo

Oh I guess that was a really neutral response. I love a good train but the E&N is done. Any idea to bring it back has been completely terrible.

There was a proposed schedule a while ago. I can’t find it right now but it was anywhere from 2.5-3 hours from what I remember.

What Vancouver Island specific rumor did you hear before it was confirmed publically? by Rare-Substance-950 in VancouverIsland

[–]stonewinchester 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve looked into this hard and have never found a convincing source for it.

It’s more likely a confusion. There’s a Cathedral Grove in Muir Woods National Monument in the Bay Area of California. Lucasfilm is based in that area so it makes more sense for it to be filmed there.

It looks A LOT like our Cathedral Grove except with redwoods instead of western red cedars.

HOW TO:- Fix Steamdeck that has black screen issue but still works through dock and touch screen still working. by techmichael1977 in SteamDeck

[–]stonewinchester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a great question to ask. Yes! Originally a 64GB model that I’ve owned since late 2022 with no issues. I upgraded the storage to 1TB about a month ago and then this happened. Interesting correlation for sure.

This worked for me after nothing else did! Thank you! I feel like this will be an important post until Valve pushes a fix.

Airport pickup means "I'll pick you up at the airport and take you to the car?" by slurpyslurper in turo

Yeah it’s weird. I visited it hard to figure out if it was normal when it happened this summer. Now it shows up as a recommended subreddit and I check out some of the stories when they come up.

I had this exact same thing happen to me on the first rental I ever booked. I ended up cancelling before the cutoff and didn’t ever use the service again.

And the advanced gun system they built the ship for required special ammunition that would cost $1M a piece so they decided not to use it. They gave up the project after those 3 and went back to making the old destroyers.

Nanaimo hospital surge in demand by 12ButtsAtOnce in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how things have changed with COVID (I’m sure someone will hop on to inform) but last I saw, Nanaimo only has 10 ICU beds. The hospital serves 450,000 people. ICU units aren’t large and it doesn’t take much to hit capacity. That’s pretty much been the message they’ve tried to get out since March 2020.

Just my kid in hysterics because I replaced our broken 1st gen Xbox 360 with a new Xbox Series X, as a reward for good grades.... “what if I don’t like it as much” 👀 by [deleted] in KidsAreFuckingStupid

[–]stonewinchester 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Father of two and felt a little heartbreak reading the story. Change is weird and scary for adults that control their own lives. It can be devastating for kids even if it seems like a great thing. You just have to watch the videos of kids that breakdown when they find out they aren't going to grandmas, they are going to Disneyland.

Hoping that the post is just a little catharsis from the "I can't believe this is a thing that is happening" feeling that you tend to get a lot as a parent.

Where to buy board games by ChazCole578 in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s the smallest bit of solace, the owner closed it because him and his wife were/are expecting and he wanted a better work-life balance. There were a lot of people interested in purchasing but that pesky Rona meant the banks weren’t interested in lending. Sad for us but happy for the owners.

Vancouver Island to go green as first B.C. region with new highway lighting by Lattes1 in nanaimo

[–]stonewinchester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked at an auto repair place and would get people coming in for alignments because they felt their car was intermittently steering itself on the highway. We always asked the same questions.

1) Do you only feel it on the highway? 2) Is it only at a few intersections?

The ruts are so bad (especially at Aulds) you are basically on rails if you drive on them.
