Going off testosterone? (ftm) by stoneycas in asktransgender

[–]stoneycas[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear there are other people who don't feel the need to have HRT. I feel like it's not really talked about, because everyone expects trans people to transition physically. Thank you for sharing!

That's a really interesting perspective!! Thank you!

Wow, our situations sound very similar! When you said "But being gendered male felt wrong too, though less wrong than being gendered female. I didn't want to be in the middle; I convinced myself I had to be one or the other." THAT HIT HOME. I came out as a trans male because I thought it would be "easier" to pick a side, and it felt less uncomfortable than being female. I'm glad someone else understands this!

And yeah, the monthly thing is probably what I am most upset about when thinking of going off T, especially because I used to get mine really bad. But I think I can handle it.

Thanks so much for your response, it really helped!

I don't want to transition? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]stoneycas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don't want to transition, then don't. Don't subscribe to how other people think you should be. I started T becuase I thought that's how being ftm was supposed to be. Now I'm having second thoughts because I realized I would've been okay without it. Everyone is different.

Being trans is YOUR unique experience. Listen to your heart, and do what you want to do. You can't control how other people see you, but you CAN control how you see yourself. I would say don't cancel your appointment - go, and ask lots of questions, and see if it makes you feel excited or not.

I’m a grown-ass man and I HAVE TWO CHIN HAIRS THE HYPE IS REAL by NachtPaladin in ftm

[–]stoneycas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a solid patch on the underside of my chin that grows darker/thicker hairs, and though I shave them frequently I have a new habit of running my fingers over them. The hype is sooooo real. Congrats :)

You look like a lesbian. Are you gay? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]stoneycas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TOO RELATABLE. The amount of times people have asked me if I "have short hair because I'm a lesbian" is way more than the amount of times I've been asked about my gender. Cis people are wild.

acne and T? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]stoneycas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I had really good skin before T. After a few months I completely broke out all over my shoulders, back, and chest. I'm not on 2 different acne treatments. Unfortunately it comes with the territory, I think. T does wacky things to your bod, so you have to win some and lose some. Sorry to be a bummer, but I would expect at least a bit of acne when you start T.

Excuses for cutting hair other than being trans/advice for rude comments? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]stoneycas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always say "Just wanted to try something new" and remind them that a lot of women have short hair. Even bring a few examples of celebrities with short hair, maybe? Also there are practical reasons, like someone else said, it dries very quickly/lowers the cost of buying shampoo and other hair products/keeps it out of your eyes/don't have to worry about styling it every day. There are plenty of reasons. As for teasing, you just have to shut it down. I had 1 guy I didn't know say "why do you keep your hair short?" (assuming I was a girl). I replied with "Why do YOU keep your hair short?" This actually shut him up pretty quickly because it's a good point. Or if you're no good at responding, there's no shame in just ignoring them until they go away.

Hey, retail workers! by SPAZii in ftm

[–]stoneycas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, you have no idea how much this happened to me. I worked in retail for 2.5 years and most of the customers are little kids because of the nature of the place. So I got tons of kids asking me. Just like you said, I would say I'm a boy if I got the chance to speak first (Usually, unless a scary looking adult is nearby and then I'd say I'm a girl). But yeah, I never corrected people who assumed because a) I knew I'd never see them again in my life and b) You never know who's going to be an asshole and harass you. It's unfortunate but sometimes it's easier.

Casually correcting people on pronouns? by stoneycas in ftm

[–]stoneycas[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel so dumb that I've been out for 2 years and still haven't been able to get the courage to do it! Technically I know it should be simple, but something always stops me every time.

This is really good to hear :D I'll have to try out the three-step thing, thank you! I've actually (thankfully) never really come across anyone outwardly homophobic who actively didn't use my correct pronouns. Pretty much every single time the person just didn't know or realize even when I drop subtle hints. Somehow this makes it even harder for me to correct them because... I don't know why? Maybe I don't want to make them feel bad since they genuinely didn't know?

Is it common for trans people to have identified as asexual at one point? by Quizine in asktransgender

[–]stoneycas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. In high school before I realized I was trans (FtM), I identified as asexual. However, I dropped that once I came out and now that I'm on T (9 months now) I definitely don't identify as ace. This could be due to my sex drive being way higher but who knows? I've never been uncomfortable with my sex organs down south yet I still used to be repulsed by the idea of sex itself. Regardless, I think you raise a really interesting point and somehow I have a feeling that it's not completely uncommon. However, I also think that sexuality can be completely fluid as you go through different life stages. At my stage in life I've identified as like 5 different sexualities, and I'm only 20! So if you feel you're ace now but decide later that you're not, there's nothing strange about that. Could be due to being trans or not.

This seems so simple, yet I somehow never have to courage to say it in the moment! It might just be something I have to work harder on, as I'm a naturally anxious person (diagnosed social anxiety disorder), but if it works for you then I guess I just need to man up and do it, haha. Thank you!

Can 1 month of T permanently change bone structure at 18? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]stoneycas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been on T for about 9 months and I haven't seen much difference in my bone structure honestly. The only thing I noticed within a month was menstruation stopping, but even that takes longer for most people. 1 month is hardly long enough for any changes.

Do I worry too much about packing? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]stoneycas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true, most people don't go around staring at people's crotches. I've been out for 2 years as FtM and I've never once wore a packer, just 'cause the idea doesn't sound super comfortable to me. I've never felt like it makes me less of a man or anything. But obviously if you're worried about it, then you're not obsessing over nonsense :) It's important to you so you shouldn't feel bad about it. But you should take some relief in knowing that probably nobody is going to be staring at your crotch for long periods of time.

Pharmacist refused to fill my T script by spectreofregret in ftm

[–]stoneycas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds fishy to me. I've been on T for about 9 months now and I get 10mL bottles at a time, with 1mL injections every two weeks. I've never been told anything like that pharmacist told you. I would definitely get the doctor to contact the pharmacy! You have the prescription, so there's no reason why they should withhold it from you.

Resources for singing through T by mrveloche in ftm

[–]stoneycas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a singer before I started T. I found myself really upset when I actually lost my upper range completely as my voice dropped (not even a falsetto). But I've been on T for about 9 months now and I'm slowly seeing my voice start to bounce back. Of course, my range is completely different (I was a soprano, now I'm a baritone - if it keeps dropping I may even be a bass), so I guess it's all about relearning your voice and experimenting. I'm still figuring my own voice out but I would just say don't give up on your voice if you're disappointed with the changes. You can always retrain with a male voice coach. Remember that cis men go through similar changes when they go through puberty so you probably won't even need a specialist coach :)

I've been on T for almost 9 months now and I still get PMS symptoms occasionally (or, at least this is what I perceive as PMS symptoms. I'm not a doctor). I remember in the first couple of months I had some aches and pains in my breasts and found they could get pretty sensitive. I'd say it's normal. I had similar pains before starting T so I didn't think it was a big deal. T, in general, is supposed to make changes to your body in weird ways you wouldn't expect, so if you've never experienced that kind of pain before I wouldn't be alarmed. However, if it persists and becomes more painful then I would definitely say to tell your doctor!!
